According to TechCrunch, Apple is looking to create a division that will be tasked with more readily pursuing its artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) efforts by combining its existing Core ML and Siri units.

Allegedly the new arm of the company will be headed up by John Giannandrea, Apple’s Chief of Machine Learning and AI Strategy.

Giannadrea is a recent addition to the Apple team, better known as the former Senior Vice President of Engineering at Google – a position that he held for a period of eight years.

During his time at Google, Giannandrea worked closely with advanced technologies, heading up the company’s Machine Intelligence, Research and Search teams.

Further, previous to this, he Co-Founded Tellme Networks, a developer of voice recognition software, and internet infrastructure company Metaweb Technologies.

The existing structures of the Core ML and Siri teams will reportedly stay the same, but both will now be expected to report directly to Giannandrea, who, in turn, will report to Apple CEO Tim Cook.
