Microsoft Copilot makes technology more accessible with AI

Microsoft has now announced its new Microsoft Copilot which aims to use AI to help transform global businesses via efficiency and ease of use

Microsoft has announced its update with Copilot, an AI assistant feature for Microsoft 365 applications and services.

Stating that they are in a ‘new era’ of AI, the company claims that with over 150 new features, the next Windows 11 update is its most ambitious yet. It now aims to offer the power of Copilot and new AI powered experiences to apps like Paint, Photos, Clipchamp and more on Windows PC.

Copilot is designed to uniquely incorporate the context and intelligence of the web, an individual’s work data to provide better assistance – with privacy and security at the forefront. It will be available in Windows 11, Microsoft 365 and in web browser via Edge and Bing.

AI fundamentally changing how we benefit from technology

With the convergence of chat interfaces and large language models (LLMs), both individual users and businesses can now ask for what they want in natural language and the technology is smart enough to answer.

Microsoft has considered this by way of the user having a copilot, or everyday companion, to help navigate any task. The company has been building AI-powered copilots into its most-used products in efforts to transform workplace productivity and deliver contextual value.

With CIOs actively making decisive moves towards generative AI and other AI capabilities, the need for easy-to-use enterprise-level AI systems has never been more desired. Microsoft Copilot combines these digital capabilities into a single experience and will begin to roll out in its early form as part of Microsoft’s free update to Windows 11, starting 26th September 2023.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has previously said on Twitter: “With Microsoft 365 Copilot, we're giving people more agency and making technology more accessible with advanced AI and the most universal user interface: natural language.”

Bing will also add support for the latest DALL.E 3 model from OpenAI to deliver more personalised answers based on the user’s search history, a new AI-powered shopping experience and updates to Bing Chat Enterprise, making it more mobile and visual.

Assisting digital transformation within the workplace

Microsoft 365 Copilot will be generally available for enterprise customers from November 2023, along with new AI assistant Microsoft 365 Chat that aims to transform the way that people work.

Copilot is described as an ‘AI assistant at work.’ It builds on Bing Chat Enterprise, but includes enterprise-grade security, privacy, compliance and responsible AI to ensure all data processing happens inside the user’s Microsoft 365 space.

In addition, Microsoft 365 Chat works across a person’s entire universe of data: all of their emails, meetings, chats, documents, plus the web to solve their most complex problems at work. Microsoft has integrated it into the Microsoft 365 apps that people use every day, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.

Microsoft shared in its announcement: “We believe that Microsoft is the place where powerful, useful AI experiences come together – simply, securely and responsibly – into the products you use most. Today, we showed you how we are not only increasing the usefulness of these experiences, but we are expanding them.

“With Copilot helping you get things done, helping you create and connect to people you care about or the world around you. We can’t wait to see what you can do with these experiences.”
