NTT Data and OpenAI partner to launch secure enterprise-grade AI tools globally
NTT Data becomes the first Japanese vendor to deliver OpenAI services to distribute ChatGPT Enterprise and develop industry-specific Gen AI agents

The commercialisation of Gen AI technologies within the enterprise landscape continues to gain momentum with NTT Data's strategic partnership with OpenAI.

This collaboration is a milestone development in Japan's AI sector, making NTT Data the first to offer ChatGPT Enterprise in the country.

The company's new role as OpenAI's official distributor in Japan signifies a critical step forward in distributing cutting-edge technology to businesses.

This partnership emerges at a crucial moment for AI adoption in Asia, where enterprises are keen yet challenged by issues such as data security, integration hurdles and workforce skills gaps.

By combining NTT Data's extensive system integration knowledge with OpenAI's Gen AI advancements — which include ML models capable of generating text, images and code — this alliance aims to overcome these obstacles.

Through this partnership, NTT Data plans to launch OpenAI's acceleration programme with 100 leading companies, aiding them in crafting AI use cases tailored to their specific needs.

This initiative seeks to convert AI capabilities into tangible business value by expertly integrating these tools into existing workflows, aligning with NTT Data's SmartAgent framework — an AI system designed to autonomously perform tasks based on business directives.

The immediate focus will be on Japan, with intentions to gradually extend services to European and North American markets as well as the Asia-Pacific region.

This move not only enhances NTT Data's AI capabilities but also aligns with global trends towards AI integration in business.

To further develop internal understanding, NTT Data will implement ChatGPT Enterprise within its global operations, enhancing enterprise deployment techniques and utilising AI to revitalise internal processes.

“Gen AI has the potential to fundamentally transform the very nature of corporate activities,” says NTT Data’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Yutaka Sasaki.

“By combining the global system integration know-how that the NTT Data Group boasts with OpenAI's world-leading AI technology, we will further accelerate our customers' business transformation and contribute to the realisation of a sustainable society.”

AI agents from NTT Data transforming capabilities across multiple industries

NTT Data and OpenAI are working to create specialised AI agents tailored for sectors including finance, manufacturing, distribution, healthcare and governmental bodies.

These agents will merge OpenAI's advanced models with NTT Data's specific industry knowledge, forming a new workforce of digital assistants.

The company has already begun large-scale implementation of OpenAI API, the programming interface that allows developers to build applications using OpenAI's models.

“By combining our knowledge of each industry with OpenAI's cutting-edge models, we will develop AI agents that can act on behalf of people in various businesses and industries, providing a new labour force,” NTT Data explained.

The Centre of Excellence

These initiatives are underpinned by the OpenAI Center of Excellence (CoE), a newly established unit within NTT Data dedicated to propagating OpenAI technologies in enterprise settings.

With a workforce boasting “tens of thousands of practical Gen AI talents”, NTT Data looks to leverage its expertise to guide clients through the complexities of AI integration.
