Robert Blumofe, Executive Vice President and CTO at Akamai

Robert Blumofe, Executive Vice President and CTO at Akamai

Dr Robert Blumofe is the Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Akamai.

Before joining Akamai, Robert worked at the University of Texas in Austin as an Associate Professor of Computer Science. He also has a Bachelor of Science degree from Brown University and a Ph. D. in Computer Science from MIT.

Robert’s career with Akamai began in 1999 and he has since made significant progress within the company.

When he first joined, Robert managed the company’s first performance team. He was significant in crafting the initial design and development of one of Akamai’s platforms as one of their chief architects, which now manages trillions of internet requests daily- Akamai’s Intelligent Edge Platform. 

From 2004 to 2021, Robert led all of Akamai’s Networks and Operations groups.

Following this, Robert managed Akamai’s Enterprise Division and Platform organisation. He looked after the creation and market adoption of services and products for significant enterprises in order to secure and improve performance for their users and applications when they moved to the cloud, as the General Manager of the Enterprise Division. In addition to this, as the lead for the Platform organisation, Robert managed the delivering and operating of the distributed system which underlied all of Akamai’s products and services.

Now, Robert steers Akamai’s technology strategy to explore adjacent segments for the business, work with Akamai’s most significant customers, convene technology leaders win the company to cause innovation, assess new market opportunities and platforms for innovation, whilst continuing to represent Akamai's technology vision in the marketplace.
