Nikolay Burlutskiy, Director of ML&AI at AstraZeneca
Nikolay Burlutskiy is the Director of ML&AI at AstraZeneca. Before beginning to develop his impressive portfolio of work, he acquired a PhD in machine learning and deep learning. Across his career, he has been a co-author for over 35 peer-reviewed publications, some of which included a range of US patents on AI applications.
Before joining AstraZeneca, Nikolay worked at ContextVision in Stockholm, leading the algorithm development of Inify, a decision-support tool that aims to empower pathologists. In addition to this, he previously worked in South Korea developing vacuum cleaning robots for Samsung Electronics.
Nikolay has a background in computer science and is passionate about growing trustworthy AI models for domain exports, to innovate, accelerate and automate their range of processes.
Fabio Cuzzolin, Professor of Artificial Intelligence at Oxford Brookes University
Fabio Cuzzolin is a Professor of Artificial Intelligence and the first Director of Oxford Brookes University’s Institute for AI, Data Science and Systems (AIDAS).
Fabio has developed an extensive range of experience throughout his career, being the Area Chair for the majority of the highest conferences in AI and vision and machine learning and a leader in the field of uncertainty theory and its applications to AI.
During his career, he has worked on formulating a geometric approach to uncertainty by analysing many measures through geometric means. As a result of this, he has crafted two monographs, such as Springer’s "The geometry of uncertainty" in 2021 and a span of tutorials. Fabio has been invited to talks at UAI, IJCAI, Harvard, Oxford and Seoul to showcase his work, highlighting the value of his formulations.
In the past ten years, Fabio has won many awards and has published around 150 publications.
Fabio previously conducted research at Politecnico di Milano, the Washington University in St Louis, the University of California at Los Angeles and INRIA, France after graduating from the University of Padua.
Now, Fabio coordinates the €3m (US$3.3m) Horizon 2020 project Epistemic AI, which aims to look at the base of machine learning through modelling epistemic uncertainty.
