Microsoft has announced the launch of its Digital ILKBS programme in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) in Malaysia in the aim of preparing the country’s technology sector for Industry 4.0.

The initiative follows on from a youth engagement survey, Transformasi Nasional 2050, that reflected the opinions of Malaysian students. Within this, a common trend was the desire to have a more interactive and practical approach to education.

“Armed with this insight, KBS is responding to these aspirations by initiating this effort to further improve and strengthen lesson delivery methods and learning facilities in ILKBS,” Microsoft said. “Over the last year, the TN50 Youth Initiative led by KBS has listened to over 60,000 unique aspirations through various engagements with over 1.7 million Malaysian youths nationwide.”

Under the initiative, Microsoft’s technology and learning tools will be introduced to eight KBS institutes across the country, largely becoming available to students enrolled in mechanical manufacturing courses.

These institutes will each have access to Microsoft’s Imagine Academy that will offer specialist education in a number of technologies including the firm’s Data Science Pathway, Computer Science Pathway, Cloud Fundamentals and Security Fundamentals subjects.

“We commend the Ministry of Youth and Sports for taking the initiative in the field of education, preparing our youth for the challenges of Industry 4.0,” said K Raman, Managing Director of Microsoft Malaysia.
