Nvidia unveils new Titan V, the world’s most powerful PC GPU

US technology firm Nvidia has unveiled its latest processor, the Titan V, that has been named the world’s most powerful processor for the PC, using its Nvidia Volta GPU architecture.

The announcement was made by Nvidia CEO Jenson Huang at the company’s annual Neutral Information Processing Systems (NIPS) conference that showcases Nvidia’s latest AI innovations.

“Our vision for Volta was to push the outer limits of high performance computing and AI. We broke new ground with its new processor architecture, instructions, numerical formats, memory architecture and processor links,” said Huang. “With TITAN V, we are putting Volta into the hands of researchers and scientists all over the world. I can’t wait to see their breakthrough discoveries.”

Titan V is proclaimed to be nine times faster than its predecessor, with its 21.1bn transistors delivering 110 teraflops.

“TITAN V’s incredible power is ideal for developers who want to use their PCs to do work in AI, deep learning and high-performance computing,” Nvidia said.

To enable customers to test this, Nvidia has allowed access to the latest GPU-optimised AI software on the Nvidia GPU Cloud.

Titan V is available to purchase for just short of $3000.
