Celonis and the BMW Group have strengthened their partnership to optimise the auto giant’s processes and increase efficiency, productivity & sustainability

Among the most famous automotive brands in the world, the BMW Group has set itself ambitious goals as the world moves away from reliance on fossil fuels and towards an EV-driven future. As the group goes about this journey, its partnerships with innovative companies are critical to its success.

Now, the pioneer and global market leader in process mining – a technique designed to discover, monitor and improve real processes by extracting readily available knowledge from the event logs of information systems – has announced that it has expanded its partnership with the BMW Group to optimise the auto giant’s processes and increase its efficiency, productivity and sustainability. The two Munich-based industry leaders have also agreed to cooperate closely in further developing future process mining innovations.

Celonis and BMW Group setting standards for the automotive industry and beyond

The enhanced collaboration between the BMW Group and Celonis is a significant milestone in the development and application of Process Mining and Process Intelligence that not only sets the standard for the automotive industry but companies worldwide. By combining their respective leadership and expertise in global innovation, the companies will drive significant advances in digital transformation. 

Since it began using process mining more than eight years ago, the BMW Group has established its dedicated Process Mining Center of Excellence (CoE), which pools the company’s process mining expertise within its central IT department to drive the development and implementation of new innovative solutions.

The BMW Group relies on Celonis' process mining technology to accelerate its group-wide digitalisation initiative. The aim is to make Celonis available to all the group’s employees, giving them the ability to analyse all company processes relevant to them and to identify and eliminate anything that causes inefficiency.

"The software’s ease of use, thanks to the integration of AI models, opens up new opportunities for us to make process mining available to a large number of users throughout the company and thus utilise the potential of the technology more comprehensively than ever before."

The BMW Group's Center of Excellence for Process Mining and Celonis' development team also agreed to collaborate more closely to accelerate the joint development of process intelligence innovations. This includes, for example, connecting suppliers in cross-company processes more efficiently by automating the transfer of data and mapping the entire customer journey. The collaboration will also focus on the integration of new AI technologies, such as the processing of information for operational employees in the production area.

Our platform offers companies like the BMW Group unprecedented process intelligence and thus a central decision-making tool to take the right measures, quickly create added value and become more efficient overall."

BMW Group’s road to electric: Growing EV adoption

The expanded partnership between BMW Group and Celonis comes amid a time of transformation for the automaker. With a growing range of all-electric models, BMW Group is serving a rapidly increasing level of demand. The company announced most recently that deliveries of all-electric cars had increased significantly in 2023 year on year to 375,716 units. The share of all-electric vehicles to total deliveries was 14.7%.

As of 2025, BMW Group has announced plans to take its core BMW brand into a new, consistently all-electric era with the NEUE KLASSE. By the early 2030s, the company says the Mini and Rolls-Royce brands will have an exclusively all-electric product portfolio. The strategy will help to achieve a share of more than 50% of the BMW Group’s global sales with all-electric vehicles. In total, the BMW Group aims to have delivered more than 10 million all-electric vehicles to customers by 2030.
