Cloudflare Bolsters Security for Global Messaging Apps

Plexi is an auditor for Key Transparency infrastructure.
Key Transparency is an emerging standard designed to ensure the authenticity of encryption keys used in E2EE messaging.
This means that Cloudflare's role as an auditor involves verifying that the logs of these keys are constructed correctly and providing an audit signature to enhance user trust.
"At-risk organisations, journalists and activists regularly rely on Cloudflare to secure their websites, emails, and traffic," says Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare.
"Being an external auditor to end-to-end encrypted messaging apps is a natural extension of those values and our technology."
A pioneering WhatsApp partnership
Meanwhile, WhatsApp, a subsidiary of Meta Platforms and one of the world's most popular messaging applications, has partnered with Cloudflare to implement this new auditing process.
The collaboration aims to strengthen users' trust in the application's security measures.
Nitin Gupta, Head of Engineering at WhatsApp, states: "We're excited to partner with Cloudflare to further strengthen Key Transparency on WhatsApp and help reaffirm for users that their encrypted session is secure."
The partnership sets a precedent for other messaging applications to follow, potentially raising the industry standard for security and transparency in digital communication.
