Darktrace reshapes its exec team and appoints its first CCO, positioning for global growth amid surging cybersecurity market and evolving threats

Cybersecurity threats are becoming increasingly sophisticated and pervasive, with the global cybersecurity market experiencing unprecedented growth.

This surge comes with evolving challenges, as organisations worldwide grapple with state-sponsored attacks to increasingly complex ransomware schemes, pushing cybersecurity firms to adapt and strengthen their leadership structures.

The UK's technology sector has emerged as a significant player in the global cybersecurity game, with Darktrace standing out as a particularly compelling success story.

Founded in 2013 through a unique collaboration between British intelligence professionals and Cambridge mathematicians, the company has grown from a promising startup to a FTSE-listed powerhouse, pioneering the use of AI in cyber defence.

Now, reflecting these market dynamics and its ambitious growth strategy, Darktrace has announced substantial changes to its executive team, including the appointment of its first Chief Customer Officer.

Darktrace, a global leader in AI for cybersecurity, has announced the appointment of Bryce Coté as its first Chief Customer Officer (CCO).

The company reports that Bryce will be “responsible for building an industry-defining customer journey and experience for current and future Darktrace customers.”

He possesses over two decades of experience in transforming the customer functions of technology companies including LogMeIn, TomTom and CyberArk.

Now, this experience will be used in the company's existing Customer Success, Customer Support, Threat Analysis and Solutions Engineering functions that will be consolidated under Bryce's leadership.

This move is part of a broader restructuring of the company's executive team, aimed at enhancing customer experience and driving growth on a global scale.

The addition of the CCO role is also expected to improve communication and integration between multiple customer touchpoints within Darktrace.

“With a customer base of nearly 10,000 organizations across 110 countries”, Bryce notes, “Darktrace is supporting cyber defenders who play a pivotal role in keeping their organisations, and the world, secure each day.

“Darktrace’s AI technology has never been more essential. I am looking forward to diving in to evolve and strengthen the experience so that we can best partner with our customers to help them make their organisations more resilient.”

Executive team expansion reflects growth ambitions

Darktrace has also promoted Dan Monahan to Chief Partner and Transformation Officer and Phil Pearson to Chief Strategy Officer (CSO).

Leadership changes amid broader industry shifts

Darktrace's executive reshuffle comes in the context of significant changes within the company and the broader cybersecurity industry.

For instance, in October 2024, Darktrace announced that Jill Popelka would succeed Poppy Gustafsson as CEO, effective September 6, 2024.

This transition in leadership reflects cybersecurity companies' necessary evolution to keep up with the industry experiencing rapid growth and transformation, driven by the increasing sophistication of cyber threats and the adoption of new technologies.

Jill Popelka, Chief Executive Officer of Darktrace, emphasised the importance of these changes: “These evolutions to our executive team ensure that we have the right leadership team in place to scale our business effectively and sustainably – always putting the customer experience front and center in our approach.”
