The HKTDC's Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) will showcase excellence and innovation
HKTDC’s autumn electronics events to feature some 3,200 exhibitors, with focus on edge AI, generative 3D technology and VR-based medical training solutions

Hong Kong has long been a pivotal hub in the global electronics ecosystem, serving as a gateway between East and West for technology manufacturing, innovation and trade, with the city's strategic location, robust infrastructure and business-friendly environment cementing its position as a key player in the industry.

This strategic position in the global electronics industry is set to be reinforced this October as the city hosts two major technology exhibitions. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s (HKTDC) Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) (EFAE) and its sister electronicAsia 2024 will serve as crucial platforms for showcasing innovation, fostering business connections and setting industry trends.

Running from 13 to 16 October at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the fairs will feature some 3,200 international exhibitors, presenting a range of smart products, electronic components and innovative solutions.

Diverse themes reflect global tech trends

EFAE will showcase a wide array of technologies, mirroring some of the most pressing concerns and opportunities in the global tech landscape.

Smart mobility will take centre stage in the Automotives and In-Vehicle Electronics Zone. Here, visitors can explore technologies for converting vintage petrol cars into electric vehicles, advanced driver-assistance systems and fast chargers for electric vehicles.

The Digital Entertainment Zone, meanwhile, offers attendees hands-on experience with the latest developments in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).

Addressing demographic shifts, the fair is also introducing a ‘Silver Economy’ section, featuring fitness and health technology designed for the elderly.

EFAE will showcase a wide array of technologies

Other zones include The Tech Hall, which provides a comprehensive overview of cutting-edge technologies, including 3D printing, IoT, robotics, smart mobility and extended reality (XR). Meanwhile, the Hall of Fame showcases products from renowned global brands, and the Startup Zone will give emerging entrepreneurs a platform to showcase their latest innovations.

AI and 3D technology take centre stage

APOP Technology Limited (APOP), a Hong Kong-based company, is at the forefront of spatial AI, generative 3D AI and edge AI solutions. The firm combines advanced integrated circuit design, deep learning, 2D/3D image processing and analytics and generative AI for images and video.

APOP CEO Patrick Ma highlighted two innovative products they will showcase: “An edge AI device for smart property management, equipped with our proprietary edge AI chip and algorithms, which can provide better energy efficiency and a cheaper solution than GPU-based edge devices on the market.”

The company will also present a 3D generative AI platform for smart entertainment and advertising. “It's the first platform in the market that integrates both generative AI and 3D technologies, allowing users to easily generate different types of pictures and videos, and then convert them into 3D stereoscopic formats.”

Addressing healthcare challenges

The exhibition will also feature innovative solutions in the healthcare sector. Health on Cloud (HOC) brings together a team of distinguished professionals with world-class expertise in medicine, technology and business.

Health on Cloud Project Manager Lewis Kim described its AI-powered VR CPR training solution: “Our system enables self-directed learning, offering users realistic, scenario-based simulations that mimic real-life emergency situations. This replaces traditional mannequin-based tools and allows users to practice life-saving skills anytime, anywhere.

“Our product bridges the healthcare gap by providing scalable and accessible medical training solutions. The shortage of skilled medical personnel can be addressed with our AI-driven platform, ensuring consistent and high-quality training.”

Networking and growth opportunities

Both companies expressed enthusiasm about participating in the HKTDC Electronics Fair. Health on Cloud’s Lewis Kim stated: “We expect the fair to provide an excellent platform for showcasing our solutions, meeting potential partners and gaining visibility in the health tech space. The fair will help expand our network and develop collaborations that will support our global growth ambitions.”

Similarly, APOP CEO Patrick Ma commented: “When a company successfully develops a new product, it naturally hopes that the product can be quickly recognised by as many people as possible. We certainly hope to use this platform to let participants from all over the world know more about our products, thereby opening up more business opportunities.”

EFAE and electronicAsia will feature a robust programme of forums, presentations and networking events alongside the exhibitions. These sessions aim to provide industry professionals with valuable insights and connections.

A highlight of the programme is the ‘Symposium on Innovation & Technology,’ which will delve into the applications of digital twin technology.

The ‘Hong Kong Electronic Forum’, meanwhile, will address key topics shaping the industry's future, including microelectronics, artificial intelligence and open-source ecosystems.

The organisers expect the combined events to attract over 60,000 industry buyers from more than 140 countries and regions, based on attendance figures from the previous year.

The HKTDC Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) and electronicAsia will run from 13 to 16 October 2024 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. The events will be open from 9:30am to 6:30pm from Sunday to Tuesday and until 5pm on Wednesday. Register now to join the world's leading showcase of innovative electronics products.
