How Box & AWS are Enhancing Enterprise AI Capabilities
As organisations grapple with the challenges of integrating AI into their existing workflows, technology providers are developing solutions to streamline this process.
Content management, in particular, has emerged as a key area where AI can drive significant improvements in efficiency and decision-making.
In response to this evolution, Box, a leading Intelligent Content Management platform and Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon specialising in cloud computing services, have announced an expansion of their strategic partnership.
This partnership aims to empower organisations of all sizes to build new applications and maximise productivity through the use of generative AI technologies.
Integrating advanced AI models into content management
The partnership between Box and AWS introduces several key innovations to the field of content management.
Box customers will now have access to foundation models directly within Box AI, utilising Amazon Bedrock.
This integration begins with two prominent AI models: Anthropic's Claude and Amazon Titan.
According to Ben Kus, Chief Technology Officer at Box, this integration addresses a critical need in the enterprise market: "Enterprises today want to work with strategic tech companies that they can trust to be both accurate and secure when it comes to accelerating their business with AI.”
He emphasised that the partnership with AWS will "revolutionise the way organisations apply intelligence to their content".
The integration allows companies to build generative AI applications by combining advanced AI models with their existing data stored in Box's Intelligent Content Management platform.
This approach aims to streamline the development process while maintaining data security, a crucial consideration for enterprises handling sensitive information.
Enhancing productivity with AI-powered assistants
In addition to the integration of foundation models, Box has introduced a new connector for Amazon Q Business, described as a generative AI assistant for work.
This tool is designed to help organisations extract more intelligence from their data, enabling users to quickly obtain answers, summarise information, generate content and complete tasks securely using their private data already managed in Box.
Vasi Philomin, Vice President of Generative AI at AWS, highlighted the significance of this development: "Together, we are making it easy and seamless for our joint customers to apply today's most advanced generative AI models and applications to their data."
He predicts that this collaboration would "unlock innovation for industries, companies and people around the world".
The Box connector for Amazon Q Business integrates with more than 40 enterprise applications, creating a unified generative AI experience.
Importantly, this integration maintains Box's robust permission controls, ensuring that users only interact with content they are authorised to access.
Expanding industry applications
This partnership between Box and AWS builds on a decade-long collaboration that has supported both startups and large enterprises in empowering their workforce with innovative technologies.
The expanded alliance is expected to benefit a wide range of industries, from financial services and media to law firms and life sciences organisations.
For instance, financial services firms can leverage these tools to boost fraud detection and automate compliance checks.
Media and entertainment companies can speed up post-production processes, while law firms can accelerate legal document review.
Nonprofit organisations can analyse large volumes of reports and public records more efficiently and life sciences organisations can extract critical insights from unstructured data to accelerate drug development processes.
Global impact and future outlook
Samantha Wessels, President of EMEA at Box, emphasised the relevance of this partnership for European customers: "With the UK taking an 'innovation first' stance on AI, Box is committed to ensuring we're providing our customers with the latest and most trusted AI models to get work done.”
She added that the partnership with AWS enables Box to "provide the latest in AI innovation to our customers, notably those across Europe like Oxfam, Arriva, Eurostar and BETC".
As organisations continue to navigate the complexities of AI integration, partnerships like the one between Box and AWS are likely to play a crucial role in shaping the future of enterprise content management and productivity tools.
The collaboration also supports Box Zones, allowing businesses to meet compliance and data residency requirements while improving application performance globally.
