How Cisco’s New CTO For EMEA Will Lead Technology Strategy

The rapid adoption of AI across European enterprises has created new demands for network infrastructure and security.
As organisations process increasing volumes of data through AI systems, they require networks capable of handling higher computational loads while maintaining data protection - which has prompted networking providers to adapt their leadership and strategy.
In this context, Cisco Systems has appointed Chintan Patel as Chief Technology Officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The move elevates Chintan from his previous position as CTO for the UK and Ireland operations.
In his expanded role, Chintan will direct Cisco's regional technology roadmap and coordinate with product development teams to create solutions for organisations upgrading their infrastructure.
His responsibilities include developing AI capabilities and strengthening digital resilience.
Cisco strengthens regional focus as AI adoption increases
Chintan’s appointment comes as organisations across EMEA invest in AI-ready data centres - facilities designed to handle the computational demands of ML systems.
Chintan will guide Cisco's strategic partnerships with customers implementing these technologies.
As part of his mandate, he will oversee Cisco's Solutions Engineering community across EMEA - and this technical division works with global product teams to design region-specific solutions as organisations update workplace technology and strengthen network protection.
"As our customers are grappling with some of the biggest technology transitions of their lifetime, they are turning to us to simplify complexity, drive value from their investments and improve their digital resilience," says Oliver Tuszik, President of Cisco EMEA.
"EMEA represents a diverse and vibrant technology landscape."
He adds: "Chintan is a technologist at heart. He has a deep-rooted passion that will help drive long-term value for our customers and partners, by bringing the true power of Cisco and our teams to the forefront."
Technology leadership focuses on network security
Network security remains central to Cisco's strategy as AI systems process increasing volumes of sensitive data.
Chintan emphasises this focus in his new role: "In this era of AI, with a heightened focus on the security of data for every organisation, there is no more relevant place to provide value and visibility than in the network."
The appointment leverages his two decades of engineering experience at Cisco, where he has worked across customer segments and corporate strategy - and his tenure includes roles in technical architecture and strategic planning, providing insight into enterprise technology requirements across sectors.
Industry engagement shapes technology strategy
Beyond his corporate role, Chintal serves as a board trustee at FutureDotNow, an industry coalition addressing digital skills development for working adults in the UK.
This position connects to broader initiatives in technology education and workforce development.
He maintains involvement with TechUK, the UK technology trade association, representing industry perspectives on digital skills development and this background aligns with Cisco's focus on preparing organisations for technological change.
In his new position, Chintan will work with academic institutions and industry leaders to identify emerging technologies and market trends - this collaboration aims to inform Cisco's product development and strategic direction in the EMEA region.
The role combines technical oversight with strategic planning as organisations adapt to new computing requirements and his engineering background positions him to advise on infrastructure modernisation and security architecture.
"I am incredibly proud of what our engineering community in the UK and Ireland has made possible for our customers," Chintan says.
"Now, I am excited for the opportunity to work with our incredible teams across EMEA to solve some of our customers' most important challenges."
