How Repsol and Accenture Will Use AI to Transform Energy

Energy firms face pressure to improve operational efficiency while reducing carbon emissions. This has led to increased investment in digital technologies, with AI – and more recently agentic AI – emerging as central components of organisations’ modernisation strategies.
Now, global energy company Repsol has expanded its partnership with Accenture to deploy AI agents across its business operations, with the programme set to use autonomous AI systems to enhance efficiency across its operations.
Nvidia platform powers Repsol’s enterprise AI deployment
The implementation builds on Repsol’s existing digital transformation programme, which began in 2018. The company will use components from Accenture’s AI Refinery platform combined with Nvidia’s enterprise AI software and computing infrastructure to create customised AI agents.
- 25,000 employees work across 20 countries
- 650+ digital initiatives implemented since 2018
- 1,200 staff directly involved in digital projects
These agents will be deployed across planning, forecasting and maintenance processes. The system aims to reduce complexity in workflows that currently require significant manual intervention.
The technology implementation includes Nvidia accelerated computing and Nvidia AI Enterprise software, designed to support large-scale AI operations across enterprise environments.
Repsolâs AI Competence Centre expands role in digital strategy
The programme extends work conducted over two years at Repsol's Generative AI Competence Centre. âWe aspire to be one of the pioneering companies in the energy sector in the use of these technologies,â says Josu Jon Imaz, CEO of Repsol. "Since we launched our Digital Program more than six years ago, Accenture has been providing us with tools to improve our efficiency and competitiveness, in our effort to transform the company through technology.â
The partnership includes exploration of digital twins and robotics solutions using Nvidia’s Omniverse platform. These technologies will support maintenance operations at Repsol’s industrial and logistics facilities.
Customer experience forms a core part of the implementation. The AI agents aim to deliver personalised offers with increased accuracy and reduced response times, according to the company.
Julie Sweet, Chair and CEO at Accenture, says: “We are excited to help Repsol achieve a new level of performance by working together to create tailored AI agents with the Accenture AI Refinery and the NVIDIA AI platform. Accelerating the use of agentic AI will enhance efficiency and productivity at speed, better serve customers with personalised experiences, and ultimately help Repsol gain competitive advantage.”
Employee training programme supports AI implementation
Repsol employs 25,000 staff across twenty countries and serves 24 million customers. The company will expand its employee training programme to support adoption of the new AI systems. Accenture will assist in developing and delivering these training initiatives.
The implementation forms part of Repsolâs broader digitalisation strategy, which has delivered over 650 digital initiatives. The programme involves more than 1,200 staff working alongside 50 technology partners.
The partnership builds on existing collaboration between the two firms. Repsol's digital programme has focused on implementing AI, cloud computing and data analytics to enhance operational efficiency.
âWith the extension of our collaboration with Accenture, we continue to drive our digitalization and AI push through the introduction of generative AI agents,â says Imaz.
Customer service enhancement through AI systems
The new AI implementation aims to improve customer service operations across Repsol's energy retail business, which provides energy services for homes and vehicles across its markets.
Digitisation forms a central part of Repsol's strategic planning. The company maintains a team of technology specialists who support implementation of digital initiatives across business units.
"We are honoured to extend our deep partnership with Repsol, a bold leader and early mover in the energy industry in embracing new technologies and ways of working," says Sweet.
