Siavash Alamouti, mimik Co-founder & Executive Chairman, explains how its hybrid edge cloud platform enables the transition to the Cognitive Internet Era

Having completely transformed the way the world communicates, the mobile internet era was revolutionary in democratising access to information. But with recent advances in technology, some of the technology’s inherent limitations have been highlighted.

As the world transitions from the era of mobile internet to cognitive internet, when humans and machines need to collaborate intelligently, technology company mimik has built a platform which combines the power of edge computing and cloud computing: pioneering hybrid edge cloud (HEC) computing to enable any computing device to act as a cloud server, helping application developers unlock the next generation of apps for the hyper connected world.

The Inventor of Alamouti Code & Marconi Fellow, and Co-Inventor of Hybrid Edge Cloud, Siavash Alamouti is the Co-Founder & Executive Chairman of mimik. “Our platform is tailored for developing cloud-native applications and solutions for the new era of cognitive internet,” he explains. “We're transforming how technology interacts with our world by enabling any smart device to act as a cloud server when needed.”

Shifting the paradigm from the traditional cloud-first to a device-first mindset offers many benefits, maximising efficiency, reducing bandwidth usage, latency and energy consumption, while also significantly cutting cloud hosting costs. “We prioritise privacy, security, and data control,” Alamouti adds, “ensuring complete ownership and control over data by their rightful owners.”

Redefining edge as devices, rather than another network box

Mimik’s approach is to make apps more interoperable, reduce development time & hosting costs, save network bandwidth, reduce latency, and improve data privacy. Its approach, Alamouti tells us, was particularly innovative from the start.

“We were the first company to redefine edge as devices, not just another network box,” he says. “Over a decade of fundamental R&D has gone into making this vision a reality.”

Ultimately, as Alamouti describes, mimik’s goal is simple: to enhance lives and streamline businesses. “We are at the forefront of this essential transition, leveraging smart devices with collaborative intelligence that mirror human behaviour, and bridge the gap between humans and machines.”

Mimik technology powering transition to the Cognitive Internet Era

According to a whitepaper published by mimik, unlike the mobile internet and cognitive IoT, the cognitive internet integrates collaborative intelligence throughout the network. This facilitates interactions between devices, services, entities and individuals across diverse domains while preserving decision-making autonomy and accommodating various identities.

As Alamouti describes, mimik’s platform is accelerating this transition to the cognitive internet, representing a significant shift in how the world engages with technology and intelligence. This will see applications and devices evolve from passive, 'dumb clients' – reliant solely on central cloud – to intelligent and collaborative entities.

“mimik’s platform enables all smart devices to be leveraged as both clients and servers, with offline capabilities,” Alamouti asserts. “Like humans, they can autonomously communicate, share resources, collaborate with others when needed and exchange knowledge as independently as possible.”

Mimik pioneering the hybrid edge cloud platform

Powering this innovation is mimik’s HEC platform.

“Our distributed cloud platform is the engine driving this transformative vision, and we're excited to showcase it at Mobile World Congress,” comments Alamouti.

Recognising that traditional cloud architectures fall short, mimik has formed partnerships with telcos, cloud providers, semiconductor companies and operating system vendors, and is today actively building solutions in key sectors like automotive and industrial automation. “Together, we're developing hybrid edge cloud-enabled solutions that not only meet but exceed our customers' needs today and in the future,” he adds.

“Our mission is to enable this vision by partnering with industry leaders to harness the power of smart devices as cloud servers. Collaborating with our partners in key sectors, we're paving the way for future-proof solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
