Nvidia Survey Shows Telco Leads Enterprise AI Integration

The telco industry stands at a crossroads of AI implementation.
While enterprises across sectors experiment with AI adoption, telco providers face unique challenges: managing vast networks, processing millions of customer interactions and preparing infrastructure for technologies from 5G to quantum computing.
These challenges arrive as the industry undergoes transformation with the rise of cloud-native networks, edge computing deployments and automation requirements creates pressure to integrate AI across operations.
Meanwhile, competition from cloud providers and over-the-top services demands telco companies improve efficiency while enhancing customer experience.
This context makes recent findings from Nvidia particularly relevant, finding that telco providers have moved beyond viewing AI as experimental technology, instead integrating it into core operations from network management to customer service.
Nvidia reveals telco AI revenue impact
Nvidia's third annual "State of AI in Telecommunications" survey indicates a shift in focus from customer service applications to network infrastructure, with more than one-third of respondents now investing in AI-enabled Radio Access Networks (RAN) – the technology that connects mobile devices to the core network.
- 84% said AI is helping to increase their company’s annual revenue
- 77% said AI helped reduce annual operating costs
- 60% said increased employee productivity was their biggest benefit from AI
The survey of 450 telecommunications professionals worldwide shows 84% report AI deployments have increased company revenue, with 21% citing revenue gains above 10% in specific business units.
Additionally, 77% of respondents indicate AI implementation has reduced annual operating costs.
The financial impact has also strengthened confidence in AI investment, with 80% of respondents identifying AI as crucial for future success.
Meanwhile, two-thirds of telecommunications companies plan to increase AI infrastructure spending this year.
Now, as network operations emerge as a growth area for AI deployment, with 37% of respondents investing in AI for network planning and operations, a further 33% report investments in AI systems for field operations optimization over the past year.
Telco networks embrace AI architecture integration
Among respondents investing in 5G monetisation and 6G research, 66% aim to deploy AI services on RAN for operational and user requirements.
This focus extends to network efficiency, as 53% of these respondents work to enhance spectral efficiency – the measure of how efficiently a frequency spectrum is used to transmit data.
Another 50% plan to locate AI and RAN applications on shared infrastructure to reduce costs.
Customer experience drives AI investment
Nvidia also found that investment priorities reflect the telco industry's focus on service improvement, with 44% of respondents citing customer experience optimisation as their primary area for AI investment.
The emphasis on customer service aligns with productivity gains, as 60% of respondents report increased employee productivity as their largest benefit from AI implementation.
Gen AI adoption accelerates in telecommunications
The survey additionally reveals widespread adoption of Gen AI, with more than half of respondents using Gen AI reporting completing their first deployment, while one-third plan implementation this year.
The technology's commercial potential drives adoption, with 84% of respondents planning to offer Gen AI solutions to customers.
The research shows that 52% will provide Gen AI through software-as-a-service models, while 35% intend to offer development platforms and compute services.
Ronnie Vasishta, Senior Vice President at Nvidia says: “The telco industry is at the forefront of AI adoption, with a clear focus on enhancing employee productivity, customer experience and network operations.
“By continuing to invest in AI infrastructure and training, telecom companies can stay ahead of the curve and capitalise on the numerous benefits that AI offers.”
