The Latest Executive Moves in the World of Technology

Niraj Tolia
Job From Alcion - Chief Technology Officer
Job To Veeam Software - Chief Technology Officer
"Everything starts with the customer. Protecting data and ensuring its resilience against threats and outages is more critical than ever."
Veeam Software, a provider of data resilience solutions, has appointed Niraj Tolia as its new Chief Technology Officer. This move follows Veeam's acquisition of Alcion, a startup specialising in AI-driven data management with a focus on security. Niraj, who co-founded Alcion with Vaibhav Kamra, will now lead product strategy and engineering for Veeam Data Cloud (VDC), a suite of services designed to enhance data protection and recovery.
The appointment comes as Veeam seeks to strengthen its position in the data resilience market. Data resilience refers to an organisation's ability to maintain and quickly restore data in the face of disruptions, including cyberattacks, system failures, or natural disasters.
Niraj's background includes founding Kasten, a company that develops solutions for Kubernetes data resilience. Kubernetes, an open-source system for automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerised applications, has become increasingly important in cloud-native environments. Veeam acquired Kasten in 2020, and it has since become a significant player in the Kubernetes data protection space.
Anand Eswaran, CEO of Veeam, commented on the appointment: "Niraj understands where the market is headed and possesses the skills and vision to bring that future to life for our customers."
Niraj's experience extends beyond his entrepreneurial ventures. He previously led product development at Maginatics, a startup later acquired by Dell EMC's Data Protection Group. Dell EMC, now part of Dell Technologies, is a major player in the data storage and protection market.
“In our digital world, protecting data and ensuring its resilience against threats and outages is more critical than ever,” he said. “Combining Alcion's AI and security capabilities with the robust power of Veeam Data Cloud gives us an extraordinary opportunity to enhance our solutions.”

Kara's appointment will take effect on 4 November 2024. Marten will continue to play a strategic advisory role for the company and remain an active voice within the industry, contributing to building a better digital future for all.

Paul O'Brien
Job From Davies - Chief Technology Officer, Global Solutions division
Job To Davies - Group Chief AI Officer and Chief Technology Officer
Davies, the leading specialist professional services and technology company, has made a significant stride in its commitment to innovation by appointing Paul O'Brien as its first Group Chief AI Officer. This newly created role underscores Davies' dedication to leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and capitalising on its value across the business.
In his expanded role, Paul will be responsible for advancing the use of AI technology throughout the organisation, developing a core strategy for the ethical use of generative AI (GenAI), and expanding GenAI technologies across products and services. This strategic move aims to drive additional value for Davies' global client base.
Paul brings a wealth of experience to this position. In his previous role as Chief Technology Officer of Davies' Global Solutions division, he supported the development and launch of a portfolio of technology products for insurance, financial services, and other highly regulated markets. Paul's appointment comes as part of a series of significant investments made by Davies to leverage innovation and capitalise on the value of AI. The company has already invested in a range of AI solutions, including Lauri, a portfolio of claims technology that has revolutionised the processing of personal injury and credit hire claims by drastically reducing average handling times and supporting more accurate claim valuation.
In his new role, Paul will report to both Mark Grocott, CEO of Davies' Global Solutions division, and Jen Morrissey. This dual reporting structure ensures that AI initiatives are closely aligned with both operational and strategic objectives across the organisation.
Commenting on his new appointment, Paul said, "At Davies, we have a rich history of delivering exceptional service to our clients through deep expertise in our respective fields and technological innovation. As Chief AI & Technology Officer, I look forward to collaborating across the business to build on our existing AI capabilities and support our teams in leveraging rapidly evolving technologies."
This strategic move comes at a time of significant growth for Davies. The firm has consistently delivered high single-digit annual organic growth and, through its M&A strategy, has seen revenues increase more than 25-fold since 2014. Today, Davies boasts over 8,500 colleagues operating in more than 20 countries, with large operational centres in the UK and US.
As Davies continues to expand its services across the insurance and financial services value chain, Paul's leadership in AI and technology will be crucial in maintaining the company's competitive edge and delivering innovative solutions to its growing global client base.
