Securing Your Workforce Identity Management with SailPoint
With identity security critical in an AI-driven world, SailPoint manages, governs and secures access across a company's complex digital environment

As AI and machine learning technologies continue to boom worldwide, non-human identities are emerging more frequently. Whilst these can be integral to automated and cloud-based workloads, there is a great need to ensure these processes are secure.

As a result, identity security is more critical than ever in today’s business landscape – particularly as digital environments become more complex, as Managing Director for SailPoint Australia and New Zealand, Nam Lam, explains.

“SailPoint ensures users can access the digital resources that they need to do their jobs optimally and as productively as possible in the most secure way,” Nam says.

SailPoint: The ERP for Identity Management

SailPoint provides enterprise identity security and governance software that help organisations manage and secure user identities, including their access to applications, systems and data. As Nam highlights, the company secures identities across any digital ecosystem, irrespective of how complex the environment is.

“It’s important to ensure that human and non-human users are secure and can be optimal in carrying out their roles and job functions,” Nam says.

Identity management has a broad spectrum of capabilities, but Nam explains that SailPoint has a ‘behind the scenes’ role to ensure access security.

“The workforce isn't just staff, it extends to third party users as well. SailPoint provides the governance, management, security and automation for all identities enabling digital access for users internally and externally from a central control point,” Nam comments.

Creating a safer work environment can also lead to more positive business outcomes.

“What really drives productivity for most organisations? It's our people,” Nam says.

Partnership with DCS: Keeping operations “modernised”

SailPoint has undergone numerous partnerships with organisations to manage identities, including the Department of Customer Service (DCS) of the New South Wales government. Its software is used to automate the process of onboarding, offboarding and managing user identities throughout their lifecycle, provide secure access to applications and conduct regular access reviews to ensure users have only the access they need.

Now, DCS can meet required cybersecurity controls for identity, migrating to a SaaS solution instead of on-premise software.

“DCS has come from a machinery of government changes (MOGs) – an organisation that has been formed by combining other agencies. When you have that level of disparity across different organisations and entities, it's very hard to manage that transformation. So I see that as a transformation in itself,” Nam says. “We had to consider how to overcome all the complexity and moving parts to ensure users are productive in the most secure way.”

SailPoint has helped DCS create a central platform by cleaning up access, ensuring that users only have the access they truly need to perform their job. Moving forward, DCS wants to harness SailPoint’s Identity Security Cloud, its next-generation microservices SaaS platform.

“Our role is to ensure that DCS is moving into the future to keep themselves modernised in the digital landscape,” Nam comments. “They're going to be taking advantage of our AI and machine learning capabilities.”

Nam adds: “In this world of needing to do more with less, this is really going to help DCS move into the future within the ever-changing technology landscape that we're already seeing.”
