Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer helps the Swiss telecom provider to deliver secure and fast services while complying with strict regulatory standards

In a significant advancement for its digital transformation strategy, Sunrise, a leading Swiss telecommunications provider, has partnered with Oracle to implement Exadata Cloud@Customer solutions.

This collaboration aims to modernise Sunrise's IT infrastructure while maintaining control over crucial systems and data. It represents a strategic move that allows Sunrise to leverage cloud technology advantages while keeping sensitive data within their own data centres, addressing both performance needs and regulatory compliance requirements.

Anna Maria Blengino, CIO of Sunrise, explains that this approach delivers essential cloud benefits without compromising on security.

“For Sunrise, having full control over data and performance is crucial, especially with strict security and compliance needs,” she says.

Supporting service delivery

The implementation specifically supports Sunrise's Operations Support System (OSS) and Business Support System (BSS), which form the backbone of the telecommunications company's service delivery infrastructure.

Billy Kneubühl, Country Leader for Oracle Switzerland, highlights how this technology fits into Sunrise's broader strategy: “Exadata Cloud@Customer fits into Sunrise's digital transformation strategy by modernising their IT setup without overhauling everything or losing control over important systems.”

This approach allows the telecommunications provider to maintain security and efficiency while gaining flexibility and responsiveness in their operations and service delivery.

The solution addresses Switzerland's stringent regulatory environment for data management and security.

“This approach meets strict Swiss regulatory requirements and provides customers with confidence that their data is securely stored and processed within national borders,” Anna Maria reveals.

She continues by noting that the on-premises cloud solution “minimises latency, optimises performance for mission-critical applications and offers high availability with robust disaster recovery mechanisms.”

Future-proofing telecommunications services

The partnership delivers immediate benefits while positioning Sunrise for future innovation. Billy says the solution “supports long-term goals like exploring AI, automation and other advanced technologies.”

For Sunrise, reestablished as a distinctly Swiss brand, having strong local partnerships has become increasingly important. The Oracle collaboration provides both advanced technology and local expertise.

Anna Maria highlights: “Oracle's strong local partner presence in Switzerland ensures smooth operations, allowing Sunrise to scale, stay agile, and focus on delivering a great customer experience.”

The transition process has been designed to minimise disruption to Sunrise's existing operations while maximising the benefits of the new technology implementation.

“Oracle's deep understanding of telco industry challenges and tailored solutions support Sunrise in modernising their IT landscape,” Billy explains.

He notes that the hybrid approach offered by Exadata Cloud@Customer gives Sunrise important strategic flexibility for the future.

“Exadata Cloud@Customer's hybrid approach optimises operations today while maintaining flexibility to scale into the public cloud,” Billy adds.

“Oracle is proud to support Sunrise's vision: Dream Big. Do Big with a secure, high-performance foundation that meets today's needs while paving the way for AI-driven automation, predictive analytics and next-generation telecom services.”
