Vodafone and Google Cloud Set to Empower Europe’s SMEs

Vodafone Business and Google Cloud are coming together to fortify and arm small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with advanced cybersecurity and agentic AI. The partnership is a part of its US$1bn strategic deal that was signed in a ten-year agreement in 2024.
The British telecoms company serves 360 million customers across 15 countries, while Google Cloud provides an advanced AI stack and Gemini models to help organisations in 200 territories transform for the agentic era.
The two companies now aim to accelerate digital transformation for millions of customers across Europe through its new partnership. This will be achieved by combining Vodafone’s extensive European and African reach with Google Cloud’s industry-leading AI and security platforms.
A 24/7 AI Concierge
The first in a suite of Vodafone’s planned agentic AI solutions is the Vodafone Business AI Concierge, developed with Google Gemini. It will be built on Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform and Gemini models.
Designed to operate autonomously within a business environment, the AI Concierge is a multi-modal AI agent, including voice and data. By leveraging Vodafone’s low-latency connectivity, it will engage naturally with customers, answer inquiries and book appointments all day-round.
Initially rolling out in Germany and Greece, the AI Concierge will handle repetitive tasks all day-round, even outside of standard operating hours. This will ensure that business owners never miss a lead, allowing them to focus on high-value growth activities.
Fanan Henriques, Vodafone Business’ Product and International Business Director, says: “Vodafone Business is helping millions of SMEs unlock the power of AI without the complexity or risk.
“By combining our network and support with Google Cloud’s AI expertise, we’re making advanced, secure AI practical for everyday business use – starting with innovations like AI Concierge, one of the first telephony integrations with Gemini.”
Strengthening cyber defences
Alongside the AI developments, the partnership is also introducing a new managed detection and response (MDR) service to bolster cyber defences.
Enabled by Google Security Operations, this tool will help smaller businesses defend against increasingly sophisticated and frequent cyber threats.
The solution brings together Google’s global security analytics and AI-driven threat intelligence providing SMEs real-time threat intelligence and analytics.
The MDR service will first launch in Germany to meet the region’s strict data protection standards before expanding across Europe later this year.
Oliver Parker, Vice President of Global Generative AI at Google Cloud, says: “By combining our Gemini models and enterprise-grade security expertise with Vodafone’s deep connectivity and customer reach, we are giving SMEs the tools they need to stay protected and remain competitive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.”
According to him, small businesses are the backbone of the global economy and yet they remain underserved when it comes to cutting-edge tech.
