Indian tech services and consulting company Wipro has announced an expansion of its strategic partnership with Google Cloud, aimed at accelerating Wipro's adoption of Google Cloud’s advanced AI technologies such as its Gemini large language models.

Building on the two organisations’ existing partnership, the move is set to enhance Wipro’s capabilities across multiple fronts, with a particular focus on leveraging Google Cloud’s Vertex AI and Gemini models. These tools, the companies say, will be utilised to develop new industry solutions, create joint go-to-market programmes and integrate AI-powered assistance into Wipro’s internal tooling for accelerated application development.

“Through this expanded relationship with Google Cloud, we are able to significantly accelerate our clients’ digital transformation journeys and empower them to maximise their cloud-run businesses,” comments Jo Debecker, Managing Partner and Global Head of Wipro FullStride Cloud.

Wipro and Google Cloud: Upskilling workforce in AI skills

A key aspect of this partnership is Wipro’s commitment to upskilling its workforce. The company is embarking on a training programme to equip its associates with expertise in Google Cloud’s AI technologies, including Gemini. This initiative is expected to yield substantial benefits, with Wipro estimating productivity improvements of up to 30% in vital digital transformation projects such as application migrations and modernisation.

Google's Gemini models
  • Google Gemini is a family of AI models that Google uses to power many of its products
  • Google’s Gemini models offer a context window of up to 1 million tokens for enterprise customers
  • Using Gemini’s multimodal capabilities, Wipro’s customers have already seen improvements in productivity, accuracy and customer experience

The collaboration also sees Wipro integrating Gemini's advanced reasoning and analysis capabilities into its core business platforms and innovation hubs. This integration forms part of Wipro's ai360 initiative, which aims to develop best practices, tools and frameworks that combine Wipro’s AI ecosystem with Google Cloud’s generative AI offerings. The focus here is on enabling safe and responsible AI solutions that address critical business challenges while adhering to evolving data privacy and regulatory requirements.

“Through this partnership, Google's powerful Gemini models and AI services are powering digital transformation within Wipro and with its broad set of enterprise clients,” says Kevin Ichhpurani, Corporate Vice President of Global Ecosystem and Channels at Google Cloud. “Wipro's expanding expertise with Google Cloud AI will benefit its enterprise clients on many of their most critical projects, including cloud migrations, data analytics, application modernisation and more.”

How partnership is improving processes for Metro Digital

The partnership is already yielding tangible benefits for Wipro's clients. Google's Gemini models, which offer a context window of up to one million tokens for enterprise customers, have been instrumental in improving productivity accuracy, and customer experience. One such success story comes from Metro Digital, where the implementation of these AI technologies has significantly enhanced their Incident & Service Request Management processes.

The leading wholesaler and partner for 17 million customers in the hotel, restaurants and catering industry as well as independent traders in Europe and Asia, Metro combines a wide network of modern wholesale stores with an extensive delivery service and an online marketplace, all supported digitally.

“The results we are seeing are: improved resolution time, reduced dependency on subject matter experts and increased solution accuracy in less time,” explains Matthias Wittpoth, Vice President of Vendor Management & IT Procurement at Metro Digital. “We expect to see further improvements in the service level agreements of our strategic partner Wipro, underscoring the effectiveness and efficiency of this innovative solution.”

Wipro says it is also integrating Google Cloud's AI technologies, including Gemini, into its FullStride Cloud Studio platform across Bangalore, London, New Jersey, Dallas and Mountain View. The platform offers transformative, cloud-native solutions through industry-leading tools, accelerators, and blueprints to simplify the design, deployment, and management of cloud programmes for customers.

“With Gemini infused into our Wipro FullStride Cloud Studio platform,” Jo Debecker of Wipro adds, “we will continue to help our clients leverage the power of cloud, adapt to an AI-driven future, and transform their businesses.”
