Dr. Werner Hans Peter Vogels serves as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Vice President of Amazon.com.
Since joining Amazon in 2004, Dr. Werner has been instrumental in driving the company's technological advancements, particularly in cloud computing and shaping its customer-centric technology vision.
Werner’s career journey
Dr. Werner’s academic journey began with a focus on radiology, working at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Hospital, part of the Netherlands Cancer Institute, from 1979 to 1985.
He later transitioned to computer science, earning a Ph.D. from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he conducted research in scalable and reliable enterprise systems.
Before joining Amazon, Dr. Werner was a research scientist at Cornell University from 1994 to 2004, contributing significantly to the field of distributed systems. In 2004, he joined Amazon as the Director of Systems Research, and by 2005, he was appointed CTO and Vice President.
