The journey towards 6G

A significant portion of the discussions being held at MWC will centre around 5G and the crucial role it plays in enhancing connectivity - particularly as the industry moves towards developing 6G.

While 5G is dominating mobile broadband and accounts for a significant portion of global connectivity, MWC organisers GSMA notes that there remains an ongoing journey to monetise 5G investments.

Top-tier industry players like AT&T and Ericsson are partnering to deploy Ericsson Cloud RAN technology on AT&T’s commercial 5G network - with the goal of further virutalising its network. Likewise, Fujitsu is set to unveil new AI-powered applications to combat 5G network complexity, in addition to Gigabyte’s new AI and 5G visions.

Other leading organisations such as Dell Technologies, AMD, Amdocs and RedHat will also present at the event to talk about how AI will continue to power the future.

2023 marked gen AI's mainstream debut at MWC, with 2024 poised to see businesses start to fully reap the benefits of the technology. As 5G's evolution steers further towards cloud-native architectures, the integration of cloud and edge assets will become essential in order for companies to meet user demands.

With this in mind, organisations at the event are keen to capture conversations surrounding cloud versus edge technology and how the two can actually be integrated to best benefit business development. Schneider Electric and NTT are among some of the companies that will today be discussing how to best deploy AI at the edge.
