How Lenovo Pioneers in Circular Design and AI Governance

Lenovo’s latest ESG Report for FY2025 highlights the company’s innovative approach to sustainability, emphasising advancements in circular design, emission reductions and global diversity and inclusion.
The report showcases how Lenovo is integrating technology into its sustainability efforts, embedding circular economy principles and technological innovations across its global operations and supply chain.
Integrating technology for the circular economy
Central to Lenovo’s sustainability strategy is its application of technology to further a circular economy.
The company continues to expand its use of closed-loop post-consumer recycled content plastics across a wide range of products, including notebooks and tablets.
By 2026, Lenovo aims for 100% of its PC products to contain post-consumer recycled content.
Emphasising sustainable material cycles, the company is increasing the use of ocean-bound plastics and recycled metals like aluminium and copper to reduce reliance on virgin resources.
The focus on extending product lifecycles ties in with Lenovo’s investment in product repairability and reuse.

The company provides repair resources such as step-by-step guides and service manuals through its self-repair program and partnerships, like its collaboration with iFixit.
Moreover, Lenovo’s Product End-of-Life Management program harnesses technology to ensure the responsible processing of obsolete equipment, focusing on reuse and materials recovery.
Recognition of technological advancements in ESG
Because of its transparent and verifiable ESG performance, Lenovo has received global accolades.
The company was awarded a Platinum rating from EcoVadis, ranked #8 in Gartner’s Global Supply Chain Top 25 in 2025 with an ESG score of 9/10 and secured a AAA rating from MSCI ESG Ratings.
This recognition extends to the Gold Award for Best Corporate Governance and ESG from the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), highlighting its commitment to sustainable and ethical business practices.
These achievements build on Lenovo’s climate leadership, which includes the validation of its Science-Based Targets initiative net-zero goal.
Laura Quatela, Senior Vice President, Chief Legal & Corporate Responsibility Officer, says: “In 2023, after having our net-zero emissions reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, Lenovo shared its Climate Transition Plan.”
This plan orchestrates the measurement and management of emissions across its global enterprise, aiming for significant reductions by 2030.
AI ethical governance
Examining technological innovation, Lenovo has progressed its Smarter AI for All vision by implementing an internal AI governance policy.
This policy aligns with international commitments — including those from the European Commission and UNESCO — and addresses ethical use, data privacy and algorithmic fairness.
Yuanqing Yang, Chairman and CEO of Lenovo Group Limited, says: “As our business focuses on enabling smarter AI for all, we continue to govern our use and application of AI across our business."
To ensure comprehensive oversight of AI integration across all sectors, Lenovo formalised the dual role of Chief Security and AI Officer.
This position reinforces AI governance, as the company collaborates with suppliers and partners to support emissions disclosure and the adoption of renewable energy through initiatives like the Lenovo 360 Circle.
Future-focused on net zero and digital innovation
Looking forward, Lenovo emphasises credible, science-based sustainability outcomes.
Its strategic roadmap is anchored in product innovation, digital transparency and cross-sector partnerships.
With regulatory readiness for standards like CSRD and ongoing progress across all ESG pillars, Lenovo aims to contribute significantly to a more inclusive, circular and sustainable global economy, while advancing toward its long-term net-zero ambitions.
