Skerdi Cerga is Chief Technology Officer of Trillium Health Partners (THP), and has been with the organisation for just over six years. He joined as Director of Infrastructure and Technology Services, before assuming his current role, in July 2023.
He is responsible for IT as it relates to THP’s operations, including biomedical equipment, computers, networking, security, infrastructure, servicing, and operating systems.
Asked what he finds most rewarding about his role, Skerdi says “putting new solutions in place”, and adds: “It’s about coming with a digital road map, and knowing how we are going to evolve over the next few years.
He says he enjoys the never-ending challenge of “having to recalibrate, and having to move quickly and be agile”.
Skerdi adds: “You always need to modify what your priorities are, based on our customers’ needs on the clinical side. That’s what makes this such an exciting job.”
But more than this, Skerdi says he derives pleasure from “walking through the hospital at the end of the day and seeing patients and their families smiling and being happy even though they are in a hospital. Knowing I'm making an impact on everyday life for 1.2 million people in our catchment area gives me enormous satisfaction. I can’t think of another job in IT that can do this.”
Asked for the best piece of advice he’s ever received, Skerdi says this was given him in his previous role, which was also in healthcare.
“I joined THP from a cancer care organisation, where I tried to do a lot of things at the same time,” he says. “My boss at the time advised me to focus on one thing – to prioritise, and complete a task, before moving on to the next one.”
Skerdi adds: “If you make the foundation strong you can build anything on top of it but if you try to do too many things, the foundation is weak, and it’s just a matter of time before it crumbles.”
