Broadcom’s Krish Prashad says secure private cloud infrastructure will help Standard Chartered accelerate AI-driven banking innovation worldwide

Heeding the call to modernise today’s critical financial infrastructure, technology leader Broadcom has signed a long-term agreement with global banking group Standard Chartered to help build a “secure, resilient private cloud foundation”.

Formed to support Standard Chartered’s critical banking services across 54 markets, the collaboration revolves around VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) – Broadcom’s private cloud platform, which Standard Chartered will use to standardise its technology infrastructure.

Broadcom acquired VMware back in 2023 and VCF has since become central to the giant’s enterprise private cloud strategy.

The new deal will improve resilience, strengthen security and simplify operations, all while helping the international bank meet increasingly complex regulatory requirements.

Secure private cloud infrastructure

Standard Chartered has transitioned its infrastructure delivery to a fully integrated software-defined private cloud environment powered by VMware Cloud Foundation.

The platform embeds Zero Trust security directly into the infrastructure layer, thereby never assuming implicit trust and always verifying instead.

Key facts
  • Around 70% of Standard Chartered’s global infrastructure footprint now operates on the new architecture

This feature within the infrastructure itself points to a secure-by-design approach that values resilience while maintaining uninterrupted availability for essential banking services.

Plus, the speed of infrastructure deployment has been compressed from a matter of weeks to as little as a single day.

Around 70% of Standard Chartered’s global infrastructure footprint now operates on the new architecture, marking a major milestone in its ongoing technology modernisation strategy.

Secure, trusted and AI-driven

Security and compliance remain central to the initiative as financial institutions continue to face growing cyber threats alongside increasingly demanding regulatory expectations.
