How Google Cloud's New Bangkok Region Will Boost Cloud & AI

Google Cloud has opened its newest cloud region in Bangkok, expanding high-performance, in-country services for enterprises, data centres and public sector organisations.
Part of a US$1bn build-out of Thailand's digital infrastructure, the region is projected to generate THB 1.4tn (US$41bn) in economic value over the next five years and support an average of 130,000 jobs annually.
“This new Thailand cloud region brings the same world-class infrastructure that powers Google’s global services directly to Thai enterprises, startups and public sector institutions,” says Karthik Narain, Chief Product and Business Officer at Google Cloud.
“With access to Google Cloud’s leading cloud and AI technologies, we’re giving Thai organisations a foundation for growth in the AI era, allowing them to innovate faster with greater control over their data.”
Data residency and reliability for regulated workloads
For regulated sectors such as financial services and the public sector, the Bangkok region provides a compliant, secure foundation.
Its three interconnected zones enable local data storage and processing to meet Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) requirements.
Multi-layered encryption and low-latency connectivity help organisations adopt cloud services while maintaining regulatory alignment and strong operational performance.
“KASIKORN Business-Technology Group (KBTG) is on a mission to become the region’s premier technology organisation and Google’s new cloud region in Thailand is the catalyst for advancing that ambition,” says Voranuch Dejakaisaya, Executive Chairman at KBTG.
“First, the reduced network latency and enhanced performance it delivers will enable faster, highly responsive digital banking services for our users.
"Second, it streamlines our compliance with the Bank of Thailand’s regulatory standards, providing us with robust control over data residency and privacy.
"Finally, it allows us to optimise our cloud architecture for cost efficiency while maintaining the highest security standards, ultimately empowering us to accelerate our pace of innovation to deliver tangible value for the people of Thailand.”
Leveraging Google’s global network
The Bangkok region plugs into Google’s planet-scale network spanning more than 200 countries and territories and 7.75 million kilometres of terrestrial and subsea fibre, including the recently announced TalayLink cable connecting Australia and Thailand.
This backbone delivers ultra-fast, low-latency connectivity for mission-critical applications and strengthens data centre interconnectivity across Asia-Pacific and beyond.
Thai enterprises can securely move large volumes of data between on-premises systems, cloud environments and 43 Google Cloud regions worldwide, supporting hybrid deployments and reducing operational costs by more than 20% on average.
Gateway to enterprise AI and agentic solutions
The new region provides access to Google Cloud’s AI portfolio, including Vertex AI and Gemini models, as well as generative media platforms such as Imagen and Veo, to build and deploy agentic solutions.
Gemini Enterprise enables businesses to manage AI agents across workflows, bringing AI-driven insights and automation directly into operational systems.
“The launch of Google’s local cloud region is a watershed moment for Thailand’s AI-driven future,” says Ekaraj Panjavinin, President of True Digital Group.
“For True Digital Group, this provides the secure bedrock to unify vast datasets and translate them into meaningful real-world impact.
"It will also fuel our AI-first direction, enabling the delivery of more personalised digital services for every Thai consumer.
"Crucially, it democratises access to Google Cloud’s best-in-class capabilities, empowering SMEs, enterprises, and the public sector alike to innovate with confidence.”
Upskilling the Thai workforce
Alongside the region launch, Google Cloud is expanding AI and cloud skills initiatives. Its ChaiyoGCP programme has delivered more than 110,000 hands-on labs in Thailand, with at least 70% focused on AI.
Google Skills provides more than 3,000 free courses to upskill non-technical learners in cloud computing, AI, cybersecurity and Gen AI leadership, addressing growing workforce readiness needs in the AI era.
The Bangkok cloud region now offers data centres and enterprises in Thailand a secure, high-performance foundation for growth, connectivity and AI innovation.
