Amazon has used AI for years, aiming to improve customer satisfaction and accelerate its sustainability journey towards reaching net zero by 2040

According to a McKinsey report, AI is estimated to contribute about US$13tn to the global economy by 2030.Andy Jassy, CEO at Amazon, said in a statement: “What started with a deep conviction that every customer experience would be reinvented using AI, and that altogether new experiences we’ve only dreamed of would become possible, is rapidly becoming reality.

“Technologies like Generative AI are rare; they come about once-in-a-lifetime, and completely change what’s possible for customers and businesses.

“So, we are investing quite expansively and the progress we are making is evident."

Amazon's history with AI

Amazon remains committed to delivering real-world AI-driven solutions, aiming to simplify and enhance the daily operations of shoppers, sellers, advertisers and enterprises through AI.

For more than 25 years, the company has been at the forefront of developing and deploying AI-powered ML models.

Amazon founded Amazon Science to innovate customer experiences, addressing existing pain points while complementing engineering and product development.

The introduction of Alexa in 2014, an AI-enabled voice assistant, marked a notable stride in leveraging NLP to respond effectively to customer demands, showcasing a significant breakthrough in AI application.

Amazon's AI for sustainability

Amazon's dedication to sustainability is clear, with a target to achieve net zero by 2040.
Integrating AI into operations, Amazon has made conscious efforts to mitigate its environmental impact, with AWS infrastructure being 4.1 times more energy-efficient than traditional data centres.

The launch of Amazon Nova, a new generation of foundation models, reflects Amazon's continued innovation in AI.

This technology is capable of processing text, image and video, offering versatile applications for customers to analyse and create multimedia content.

Amazon Nova operates across six different modalities, catering to diverse customer needs and budgets.
