How Will Google Cloud AI Reshape THG Ingenuity Ecommerce?

THG Ingenuity and Google Cloud have announced a move that will see the digital commerce provider migrate its infrastructure to Google’s cloud platform and integrate AI capabilities across its operations.
The partnership involves a migration of THG Ingenuity’s ecommerce and fulfilment infrastructure to Google Cloud’s platform. This includes moving applications and legacy systems to a more scalable foundation, with the infrastructure shift to support future market expansions and acquisitions.
THG Ingenuity to build AI services using Google Cloud Vertex AI
Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform provides a unified environment for building, deploying and scaling machine learning models. The platform handles the infrastructure complexity of training and serving AI models, allowing developers to focus on application logic rather than backend management. Vertex AI supports custom model development as well as pre-trained models for common tasks like image recognition and natural language processing.
THG Ingenuity will use Vertex AI to develop services across demand planning, product recommendations, storefront technology and fulfilment automation. These applications will be integrated into THG Ingenuityâs existing commerce platform, which combines ecommerce technology with fulfilment operations across three divisions: THG Commerce for ecommerce technology, THG Fulfil for fulfilment and courier management and THG Studios for creative services.
Gemini, Googleâs family of multimodal AI models, can generate content, analyse patterns and perform reasoning tasks across different data types. For ecommerce applications, this multimodal capability enables analysis of product images alongside text descriptions, customer reviews and purchasing behaviour.
Google Cloud’s Veo and Imagen models for THG Studios
THG Studios will deploy Google’s Veo and Imagen models for visual content production. Veo is Google’s video generation model, capable of creating video content from text prompts or combining existing footage with AI-generated elements. Imagen focuses on image generation and manipulation, allowing users to create, edit and enhance images through natural language instructions.
These tools will enable THG Studios to produce marketing assets that blend product photography with AI-generated backgrounds and create video content without traditional production resources. The models will also analyse market data and consumer patterns to inform creative strategy, potentially reducing production timelines and costs for brand campaigns.
“THG Ingenuity is at the forefront of revolutionising digital commerce, and we are proud to collaborate with them,” says Maureen Costello, Vice President for UK, Ireland and Sub-Saharan Africa at Google Cloud. “By combining Google Cloud’s AI and data expertise with THG Ingenuity’s global commerce and fulfilment capabilities, we are enabling brands to modernise, innovate and create exceptional customer experiences at scale. This collaboration sets the state for long-term impact across industries.”
Infrastructure migration to support scaling and acquisitions
The migration to Google Cloud infrastructure will move THG Ingenuity’s existing systems, including legacy applications, to a cloud-based architecture: aiming to provide a foundation for THG Ingenuity’s geographic expansion and potential acquisitions. Cloud infrastructure allows companies to onboard new operations more quickly than traditional data centre deployments, as new services can leverage existing platform capabilities rather than requiring separate infrastructure builds.
Google Cloud provides infrastructure, AI models, developer tools and data platforms to organisations in more than 200 countries. Its AI offerings have grown from research projects into commercial products over the past several years, with Vertex AI launching in 2021 as a unified platform for machine learning operations.
Brands using THG Ingenuity’s platform will gain access to these Google Cloud capabilities through the integration. The companies state that customers will be able to use AI-driven insights, personalised shopping technology and infrastructure security features without needing separate contracts or technical integrations with Google Cloud directly.
“This landmark collaboration with Google Cloud is a transformative moment for THG Ingenuity,” says Alistair Crane, Chairman at THG Ingenuity. “Together, we are not only reimagining digital commerce through innovation, but also ensuring that customers have the products, tools and fulfilment solutions to drive their businesses forward. This is about shared growth, shared innovation, and a shared commitment to shaping the future of commerce.”
