Google has unveiled its Gemini Enterprise AI platform, delivering agentic AI capabilities and conversational technology to companies across all industries

Google has revealed the introduction of Gemini Enterprise, a conversational AI solution created to embed AI throughout workplaces around the globe.

The reveal, delivered by CEO Sundar Pichai together with Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian during the company's Gemini at Work event, frames the offering as what Sundar describes as "the new front door for AI in the workplace".

The solution represents a unification of multiple existing Google AI technologies, incorporating the company's Gemini models, first and third-party agents and the fundamental technology from what was formerly called Google Agentspace.

Moving beyond traditional AI chatbots

On the surface, Gemini Enterprise represents Google's effort to advance beyond simple chatbot technology towards a more extensive, transformational solution that organisations may find more valuable.

The solution allows staff members to engage with company documents, data and applications using natural language whilst simultaneously providing them with the capabilities needed to create and implement AI agents.

Thomas highlighted this philosophy in his reveal, proposing that the initial wave of AI "has been stuck in silos, unable to orchestrate complex work across an entire organisation".

Genuine transformation, he contends: "Requires a comprehensive platform that connects to your context, your workflows and your people".

In essence, the Gemini Enterprise is a package containing six fundamental components: advanced Gemini models, a no-code workbench for building agents, pre-built agents for specialised tasks, connections to enterprise data sources, central governance and an ecosystem of over 100,000 partners.

Positive results from initial users

Prior to the platform's official release, Google contacted a number of organisations to trial the technology. Throughout this year, these organisations have been deploying the platform in live environments, with outcomes differing across industries.

Virgin Voyages has rolled out more than 50 specialised AI agents throughout its operations, with one agent called Email Ellie cutting campaign copy creation time by an estimated 40%.

The cruise operator reports that AI-generated campaigns played a role in a 28% year-over-year increase in July sales, which the company characterised as record-breaking.

"What excites me most about this partnership with Google Cloud is how it gives our teams back time to do what they do best – create joy, build connections and bring our brand to life," says Nirmal Saverimuttu, CEO of Virgin Voyages.

In another example, Gordon Food Service, a 127-year-old foodservice distributor, has provided nearly 12,000 employees with Google Workspace and is utilising Gemini Enterprise to support its IT and developer teams.

Brendan Bonthuis, CIO at Gordon Food Service, explains: "We've been around for more than 127 years because we know innovation matters, and that spirit is what makes our partnership with Google Cloud so incredible."

Google has also tested its technology in the finance sector. Macquarie Bank in Australia became one of the first retail banks in the country to deploy Gemini Enterprise to all employees across its retail banking business, not limiting access to technology teams.

The bank is presently building two types of custom agents: personal agents for individual productivity and enterprise agents conceived to address complex business challenges.

"Retail banking is a highly competitive industry, and ultimately we need to scale fast and scale smartly," says Richard Heeley, Head of Technology at Macquarie's Banking and Financial Services group.

Within six months, Macquarie Bank targets having all employees incorporating AI into their daily workflows, with 99% of current employees having already completed generative AI training.

Additional use cases mentioned by Google include HCA Healthcare piloting a Gemini-powered solution for nursing shift handovers, estimated to save millions of hours annually – and Best Buy reporting a 200% increase in customers independently rescheduling deliveries.

Competitive positioning

The reveal comes as Google Cloud disclosed exceeding a US$50bn annual revenue run rate in the second quarter, with 65% of cloud customers already using the company's AI products.

Google's strategy depends on what it calls a "full-stack" AI approach, covering infrastructure, research, models and products.

The technical foundation includes Nvidia GPUs and Google's proprietary Tensor Processing Units, with the latest Ironwood generation delivering a tenfold performance improvement over previous versions.

Research work from Google Research and Google DeepMind supports the platform's functionality.

The company highlighted that Michel Devoret, Chief Scientist on its quantum team, recently received the Nobel Prize in Physics for foundational research conducted in the 1980s.

This follows last year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Demis Hassabis and John Jumper for AlphaFold.

How much does Gemini Enterprise cost?

Gemini Enterprise will be accessible in all countries where Google Cloud products are sold, with support for 48 languages.

The solution provides several editions: Gemini Business for small businesses and individual departments, starting at US$21 per seat per month with annual plans, and Gemini Enterprise Standard and Plus editions for larger organisations, starting at US$30 per seat per month.

Business Edition includes a 30-day free trial period and will begin rolling out from 9 October.

Thomas frames Gemini Enterprise against competitors by observing that other vendors "are handing you the pieces, not the platform" and leaving teams to integrate components themselves.

The platform's success will likely hinge on whether businesses find value in integrated AI systems versus standalone tools, and whether Google's infrastructure advantages translate into meaningful productivity gains for enterprise customers.
