Macquarie Data Centres Hits New Milestone on AI-Ready Site

Macquarie Data Centres has reached a major construction milestone on its newest hyperscale facility, IC3 Super West, with a topping-out ceremony. The event saw the New South Wales (NSW) Treasurer, Hon. Daniel Mookhey MP poured the final concrete to complete the buildingâs external structure.
The facility is designed to deliver high-density capacity for artificial intelligence workloads.
The 47MW data centre located in Sydneyâs north zone remains on schedule to open in September 2026. According to Macquarie Data Centres, it is the only facility set to add new AI-ready capacity in the region next year.
The build is a component of Macquarie Data Centresâ broader 200MW development pipeline that is designed to support hyperscaler enterprises and Neoclouds that require high-density environments for GPUs and high-performance computing.
Government support for NSW technology infrastructure
With its end-state power already secured, IC3 Super West is being developed to address the rising demand for AI infrastructure in a constrained Tier 1 market. The NSW Government has shown its support for such projects through its focus on accelerating the delivery of technology infrastructure.
Daniel says: âCompanies like Macquarie Data Centres keep investing, keep expanding and keep believing that NSW can be a global home for high-tech infrastructure. And it happens because the government has chosen to take planning and investment delivery seriously.â
He added that the facility's existence could support businesses' research and AI capability expansion.
âIn the years ahead, thousands of businesses will run smarter because this building exists,â he explains. âResearch will accelerate because this building exists. AI capability will expand because this building exists. And NSW will be more competitive â globally competitive â because this building exists.â
Sydneyâs role in high-density AI and cloud growth
The development comes as Sydney strengthens its position as a key Asia Pacific hub for cloud and digital services.
The NSW Government's new Investment Delivery Authority is tasked with accelerating future technology infrastructure projects, including Macquarie Data Centresâ announced 150MW planned site. This regional focus on sovereign capability, combined with hyperscale demand, underpins further investment into AI-optimised data centre capacity.
David Hirst, Group Executive at Macquarie Data Centres, says: âIC3 Super West is the next data centre in our pipeline of sites planned to add circa 200MW of AI and cloud capacity in Sydney. Demand for high-density AI infrastructure is the most important megatrend weâve seen in over 25 years in the data centre industry.â
David continued stating that the facility is designed for the specific needs of modern AI: âIC3 Super West opening in Q3 2026 is purpose-built for the high-density power and liquid cooling demands of new AI technology. Sovereign data centres keep Australia competitive in the global market and are the foundation of our AI future.â
Engineering for next-generation AI workloads
IC3 Super West is the third facility to be constructed at Macquarie Data Centresâ 65MW Macquarie Park Data Centre Campus.
It has been designed around the latest requirements for AI and GPU clusters featuring a hybrid mix of air and liquid cooling, which includes direct-to-chip solutions suitable for extreme rack densities.
These capabilities are becoming essential as customers deploy larger AI models that have high demands for sustained power and thermal performance. The facility is engineered to ensure stability in high-density environments, and its secured power envelope allows for predictable scaling and long-term planning for clients.
Phase one of the IC3 Super West project represents an investment of approximately AU$350m (US$229.4m).
This initial phase will deliver the complete core and shell along with 6MW of fitted IT load. This approach enables early customer occupancy before the full capacity is deployed.
The next construction stages will focus on completing internal fit-outs and advancing the cooling system installation to prepare the facility for its operational readiness ahead of the Q3 2026 opening date.
