Social platforms emerge as business guidance channels

Social media is shaping up as a vital channel for business insights, with 51% of respondents using YouTube for guidance.

Other social networks such as LinkedIn, with 41% user reliance, and Facebook or Instagram, with 37%, underscore the diversification of information sources.

Interestingly, there's a generational divergence in platform usage. TikTok engages 31% of UK SME owners for business advice, a figure that jumps to 60% among younger entrepreneurs aged 18-24.

This data indicates a trend where digital natives prefer leveraging contemporary digital platforms for business strategies.

Furthermore, personal networks continue to be crucial, as 93% still rely on family and friends for business guidance, emphasising a balanced mix of traditional and new-age advisory sources.

As business owners blend AI tools, social platforms and personal networks for advice, their technology must facilitate this multi-channel approach.

Research indicates that UK entrepreneurs are developing more sophisticated tactics for accessing business support, expanding their networks to include digital platforms alongside traditional advisors rather than replacing them outright.

This progression underscores the growing complexity in business operations, as owners navigate evolving technologies while nurturing the personal relationships that offer emotional support and local knowledge.

Payment providers are refining their platforms to accommodate businesses working across varied channels and advisory sources.

By integrating key business functions into single platforms, entrepreneurs can concentrate on growth and continuity while effectively managing operational challenges.

“While family and friends provide invaluable advice and emotional support, leveraging technology is equally crucial,” Chris says.
