Delivery and courier Evri is using AI powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Databricks to deliver more than 900 million parcels a year.

The firm's existing Parcel Vision technology – responsible for automatically processing delivery photos taken on the doorstep by couriers – has been renamed to Veri Snap AI following the integration of the Amazon Nova Lite Gen AI model via Amazon Bedrock.

The updated tool lets Evri employees check every delivery photo by identifying parcels to assess aspects like the location of the delivery and conditions of the parcel.

The upgrade is designed to help Evri’s team investigate any instances where photos don’t meet delivery expectations, leading to improved customer experience.

Evri trialled the technology with more than 20 million photos being checked.

Now, following its success, the firm is deploying the technology across its entire network.

There are already plans for future enhancements, such as checking if a courier is taking a compliant photo in real time and suggesting where to leave parcels safely if not.

Customers can take control of their deliveries by using the Evri app to track a parcel, choose a safe place, preferred neighbour or divert to a pick-up point.

The AWS upgrade is part of Evri’s plans for AI investment totalling £4m (US$5.3m), announced in June 2024.

Since then, it has migrated its legacy SAP HANA workflows to the Databricks Lakehouse Platform to reduce costs and break down data silos.

This has allowed Evri to analyse data across all of its operations, including delivery photos.

Evri has more than four million independent five-star Trustpilot reviews – an average courier rating of 4.6/5 – reflecting a strong commitment to customer experience.

Veri Snap AI aims to continue to improve this.

Marcus Hunter, CTO of Evri Group, says: “Harnessing AI through our collaboration with AWS and Databricks marks a pivotal moment in Evri’s AI transformation.

“Veri Snap AI allows us to proactively enhance the delivery experience for millions of customers, working towards a future where every parcel photo meets our standards.

“This innovation improves transparency and trust, whilst empowering our teams to focus on what matters most – delivering excellence.”

Marcus Hunter, Chief Technology Officer at Evri

Richard Turnbull, Head of Manufacturing, Automotive and Logistics for UK and Ireland at AWS, adds: “We are delighted that Evri is expanding its use of AWS technologies and taking AI deeper into its business operations.

“By leveraging AI, Gen AI, and the cloud to power new services like Veri Snap AI, Evri is able to deliver a better experience for both customers and its workforce.

“We look forward to working together with Evri as it looks to continue to embrace AI technology.”
