Ecolab Global Intelligence Centre transforms IoT data into actionable insights, advancing sustainability and efficiency across industries worldwide

In 2022, Ecolab transformed its single remote monitoring facility into something far more ambitious: a global network of intelligence centres designed to help companies navigate the overwhelming flood of IoT data.

The Ecolab Global Intelligence Centre (EGIC) represents a strategic response to a pressing industrial challenge.

As businesses modernise with connected devices, they generate vast quantities of information that risk obscuring the insights that matter most.

Operating from six locations worldwide – with its primary hub in Pune, India, and additional centres in Brazil, China, North America, Saudi Arabia and The Netherlands – the EGIC provides round-the-clock analysis of data from more than 30,000 connected systems globally.

Beyond remote monitoring

The centre's multidisciplinary experts support industries ranging from power and manufacturing to data centres and food processing.

They work alongside Ecolab's 25,000 field associates to deliver what the company describes as customer-centric support at scale.

This combination of remote intelligence and on-site expertise has already yielded tangible results.

In one instance, EGIC personnel helped a chemical processing plant prevent the loss of nearly 40,000 gallons of treated water by identifying a valve overflowing at 55 gallons per minute.

Another intervention saved an automotive manufacturer US$62,000 by spotting an issue that could have damaged a critical heat exchanger.

Technology meets sustainability imperatives

The EGIC's launch coincides with intensifying pressure on businesses to meet ambitious climate targets while maintaining productivity.

According to the World Resources Institute's 2020 report, freshwater demand may exceed supply by 56% by 2030.

"Businesses face the pressures of producing more using less water and energy and many organisations have responded with ambitious climate and water targets," explains Calvin Emanuel, Vice President and GM of Ecolab's Net Zero Solutions team.

Calvin believes data visibility enables companies to pursue sustainability and business goals simultaneously.

The centre analyses information from systems built on Ecolab's ECOLAB3D analytics platform, including Water Flow Intelligence, Water Quality IQ and OMNI solutions.

These insights translate into measurable outcomes: water and energy savings, improved regulatory compliance, enhanced product quality and reduced operational costs.

Expanding intelligence capabilities

Beyond its industrial focus, Ecolab is developing EGIC capabilities for pest elimination, life sciences and healthcare sectors.

These include audit management support for hospitality businesses and intelligent monitoring solutions for pest control operations.

Mike Cerilli, Vice President of Ecolab's Digital Growth team, frames the centre's role within a broader digital transformation strategy.

"We believe that data access and visibility allow companies to advance their business goals while taking concrete steps towards safer and more sustainable operations," he says.

Chris Leong, Ecolab's Chief Marketing & Innovation Officer, recently visited the EGIC team and highlighted their immediate impact.

"The EGIC is a global network of remote intelligence centres powered by connected experts who are enhancing our digital tools with the latest technology and delivering real value to customers β€“ not someday, but right now," she explains.

"The EGIC is an engine for customer value delivery, and it’s truly helping Ecolab protect the resources vital to life."

The Global Intelligence Centre represents more than technological advancement.

It exemplifies how companies are attempting to bridge the gap between data abundance and actionable intelligence, whilst addressing mounting environmental pressures facing global industry.
