How Vertiv Scales Liquid Cooling for Next-Gen AI Workloads

Vertiv has introduced a new modular liquid cooling and power infrastructure solution engineered for next-generation, high-density data centre environments.
The Vertiv MegaMod HDX is a prefabricated platform designed to meet the demanding thermal and power requirements of AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads across North America and EMEA.
Offered in a range of configurations, the MegaMod HDX integrates direct-to-chip liquid cooling with air-assisted technologies to deliver power capacities of up to 10MW, supporting rack densities from 50kW to beyond 100kW per rack.
Supporting dense AI compute demands
Vertiv offers the MegaMod HDX in two scalable configurations.
The compact module maintains a standard height, supporting up to 13 racks with a total power capacity of 1.25MW.
The larger combo module features an extended-height architecture capable of housing up to 144 racks and delivering a maximum of 10MW.
Both prefabricated designs are built for modular expansion.
Its hybrid cooling architecture combines direct-to-chip liquid cooling with conventional air-cooling systems, addressing the intense thermal demands of pod-style AI environments and high-density GPU clusters while improving overall energy efficiency and thermal control.
Viktor Petik, Senior Vice President of infrastructure solutions at Vertiv, says: âTodayâs AI workloads demand cooling solutions that go beyond traditional approaches.
âWith the Vertiv MegaMod HDX available in both compact and combo solution configurations, organisations can match their facility requirements while supporting high-density, liquid-cooled environments at scale.
âOur designs deliver what data centres need mostâreliable performance, operational efficiency and the ability to scale their AI infrastructure with confidence.â
Both MegaMod HDX configurations are fully prefabricated, incorporating integrated power and cooling components that are factory-assembled and tested under controlled conditions.
This approach accelerates deployment timelines and ensures consistent performance from installation to operation.
Reliable architecture and continuous operation
Vertiv has engineered the MegaMod HDX for continuous uptime, even during maintenance or unplanned outages.
The systemâs distributed redundant power architecture enables uninterrupted operation, ensuring workloads remain online if a module fails.
A built-in buffer-tank thermal backup provides additional stability, maintaining GPU cluster temperatures during load shifts or servicing.
This design helps operators sustain full performance in high-density, compute-intensive environments.
With its prefabricated structure and factory-tested systems, the MegaMod HDX enables faster deployment across multiple sites, reducing both complexity and build time.
Vertiv further supports the end-to-end deployment lifecycle through its global service network, providing comprehensive assistance from installation through ongoing operation.
Integration across Vertiv's infrastructure portfolio
The MegaMod HDX integrates seamlessly with Vertivâs broader portfolio of power, thermal, and IT infrastructure solutions.
Each system incorporates key components, including the Vertiv Liebert APM2 uninterruptible power supply (UPS), the Vertiv CoolChip CDU cooling distribution unit, and the Vertiv PowerBar busway system.
Monitoring and performance analytics are managed through the Vertiv Unify infrastructure management platform, allowing operators to maintain real-time visibility into system health and operational efficiency.
IT infrastructure is further supported through Vertivâs rack solutions, such as Vertiv standard racks and Vertiv OCP-compliant models.
The MegaMod HDX also accommodates Vertiv CoolLoop RDHx rear door heat exchangers, Vertiv CoolChip in-rack CDUs, rack power distribution units (PDUs) and Vertiv PowerDirect in-rack DC power systems.
Cooling distribution is enhanced by Vertiv CoolChip Fluid Network Rack Manifolds, ensuring efficient fluid management across the thermal loop.
By combining prefabricated power and cooling capabilities with tight integration across its existing ecosystem, Vertiv positions the MegaMod HDX as a scalable, AI- and HPC-ready solution built to address the growing density and deployment demands of modern data centres.
