Google Cloud Asks: How Will AI Alter the Retail Industry?

Not only will AI streamline operations by automating tasks like customer support and supply chain optimisation, allowing employees to focus on higher-value activities, but it will also enhance product discovery and accelerate processes like tagging and product categorisation.
Scheduled for 14 January 2025 to 16 January 2025, NRF 2025: Retailās Big Show will take place in New York City and explore how AI will redefine the boundaries of creativity and innovation in the retail industry.
Speaking before the event, Carrie Tharp, Vice President of Global Solutions & Industries at Google Cloud, highlights how the leading cloud computing company is helping catalyse the AI movement in the retail industry.
She spotlights how Google Cloud leverages its partnerships with fellow technology companies to handle complex, large-scale AI tasks effectively and to expand their AI infrastructure.
"Our partnership with NVIDIA is all about helping retailers get the tools and infrastructure they need to use AI effectively and at scale," she says. "Now with NVIDIA's AI Enterprise software available on Google Cloud, retailers can handle more data and more complex AI tasks without their systems getting bogged down.
"Companies like LiveX AI and Standard.ai are already benefiting from this partnership. LiveX AI is building AI agents that reduce customer support costs while providing a more personalized experience. And Standard.ai is helping brick-and-mortar stores understand customer behavior and improve the in-store experience."
Google Cloud and AI
Google Cloud utilises AI to equip organisations with the expertise they need for smarter decision-making, enhanced customer experience and improved efficiency.
To leverage the potential of AI, Google Cloud has developed a span of tools, such as:
- Vertex AI platform
Allowing developers to build, deploy and scale machine learning models and simplify complex AI workflows
- Vertex AI Search
Enhances product discovery by using advanced language models to create context-aware, precise results
- Google Agentspace
Businesses can access AI agents that will automate tasks such as inventory management, personalised recommendations and customer support
Google Cloud also connects customer devices with in-store systems to create integrated shopping experiences. This means retailers can create visual content at scale through its image-to-video and image generation technologies.
