How Intel AI is Powering the 2024 Paris Olympic Games
Technology is helping transform the sporting world – from enabling better insights for teams to improving the fan experience. As the 2024 Paris Olympic Games draw near, Intel has unveiled its vision to deploy advanced AI technologies at this premier global event.
Since its involvement in the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games, Intel has maintained its partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and will serve as the official worldwide AI platform partner for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024. Intel’s strategy includes delivering groundbreaking AI-powered solutions that will enrich the experiences of fans, organisers, athletes and global audiences.
Central to Intel's offerings are technologies designed to provide a fluid experience for fans attending in person or tuning in remotely, while also setting the foundation for AI to transform sports more broadly.
“The Olympic and Paralympic Games are the world’s biggest showcase for the best athletes to push the boundaries of possibility and do things we never thought possible,” comments Sarah Vickers, leader of Intel’s Olympic and Paralympic Games Office. “This summer, Intel will accelerate its mission of bringing AI Everywhere using Intel solutions at Paris 2024, showcasing the powerful potential of technology and AI to create immersive and interactive experiences at the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 for millions around the world.”
Intel AI to enable first-of-their-kind experiences at 2024 Olympic Games
At Paris 2024, which promises to be one of France’s largest-ever events, Intel's AI platforms will be integrated across various dimensions of the Games, including pioneering on-site immersive AI experiences. Intel's AI applications will benefit athletes, coaches, and spectators, enhancing the Games with interactive, AI-driven fan activities. In collaboration with Samsung, it will use AI and computer vision to analyse athletic drills and match each participant’s profile to an Olympic sport. Intel's efforts also enhance accessibility, with AI-powered 3D models facilitating indoor and voice navigation through smartphone apps.
The 2024 games will also mark the debut of an 8K live streaming broadcast powered by Intel Xeon processors. This technology will deliver an 8K livestream with minimal latency, offering viewers a high-resolution viewing experience. This innovation sets a new standard for future sports broadcasting.
Furthermore, AI automation will enable faster, more personalised digital content delivery to viewers. The Olympic Broadcasting Services' Automatic Highlights Generation, powered by the Intel Geti platform, will instantly provide tailored highlights, streamlining production and editing processes.
To preserve the legacy of the Olympic Games, Intel's Emergent AI Lab is developing neural object cloning to transform Olympic artifacts into 3D digital models. This technology will allow the Olympic Museum to offer interactive digital exhibitions, making historical objects accessible in digital form.
“Our partnership with Intel has propelled us into a realm where emerging technologies, powered by artificial intelligence, are reshaping the world of sport for spectators, athletes, IOC staff and Partners,” said Ilario Corna, Chief Information Technology Officer at the International Olympic Committee. “Through their AI-powered solutions, Intel has enabled us to deploy AI faster than ever before. Together, in Paris 2024, our collaboration will create an Olympic experience like never before, embodying our shared commitment to building a better world through sport.”
