How Precisely’s New CIO & CDO Will Enhance Data Integrity

Businesses face increasing pressure to derive value from their data assets while maintaining compliance with evolving regulations around data management and privacy.
As a result, Precisely has promoted Joel Chaplin to Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Dave Shuman to Chief Data Officer (CDO).
The internal appointments follow the retirement of Amy O'Connor who previously held the combined role of Chief Data and Information Officer.
The leadership restructure at the Massachusetts-based firm splits Amy's previous responsibilities, with Joel reporting to Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Jason Smith, while Dave will report to Chaplin in this newly created reporting structure.
Joel Chaplin: bringing integration expertise to support Precisely’s growth strategy
In his new position, Joel will oversee global IT operations and data analytics teams, with particular emphasis on scaling operations to support the company's expansion trajectory – including strengthening the infrastructure that underpins Precisely's suite of data integrity products.
“Joel has played a critical role in integrating multiple acquisitions and ensuring data integrity across our systems,” says Jason.
“His leadership will be instrumental in strengthening our IT infrastructure and continuing to elevate our customer-centric business.”
Joel joined the company in 2021 when Precisely acquired Winshuttle, a firm providing SAP automation software that streamlines data management processes, which now operates as part of the Precisely Automate division.
His technology leadership career spans several decades, including executive positions at Nuance Communications, a conversational AI technology provider, as well as Varolii, Virtuoso, Motricity and InfoSpace.
He brings substantial experience in systems integration, which will prove valuable as Precisely continues its acquisition-driven growth strategy in the data management market.
“With Precisely's continued growth, my focus is on building a scalable IT and data organisation that empowers our teams and enhances customer success,” says Joel.
“Data integrity is core to our mission and as we continuously evolve and learn to identify opportunities that improve our data operations, Dave Shuman has the expertise to successfully lead our data strategy in his new role as CDO.”
Dave Shuman: advancing Precisely’s data governance framework
As Chief Data Officer, Dave will take responsibility for data governance, modelling and analytics – establishing frameworks that maintain data quality throughout the organisation.
He brings over two decades of experience in data and IT strategy implementation, having previously guided large organisations through significant data transformation initiatives across multiple sectors.
Prior to joining Precisely, Dave headed the Connected Industries & Smart Cities group at Cloudera, a data cloud platform company that helps enterprises analyse and manage information across hybrid environments.
His appointment is part of Precisely's commitment to maintaining internal data practices that mirror the solutions they sell to clients, which include data integration, data quality, data governance and location intelligence tools.
The Burlington-headquartered firm has positioned itself as a leader in the data integrity space, providing software that helps organisations maintain accurate, consistent and contextual information across their enterprise systems.
“Commitment to accurate, consistent and contextual data is at the heart of everything we do at Precisely,” says Dave.
“I look forward to driving our data strategy forward and delivering even greater value to our customers.”
