SAP Business AI expands capabilities across cloud portfolio as company builds on 200 existing AI features with focus on business process automation

SAP has outlined its first quarter 2025 release highlights for SAP Business AI, with plans to reach 400 embedded AI use cases across its cloud portfolio this year. The company is expanding its Joule AI assistant to support 11 languages whilst integrating it more deeply into core SAP applications.

“When we said 2024 was only the beginning, we meant it. This year will be the most ambitious year for SAP Business AI yet, with a target of 400 embedded AI use cases across our cloud portfolio,” Philipp Herzig, Chief Technology Officer at SAP, writes in a recent SAP blog.

The technology provider reports that customers are currently using SAP Business AI for applications ranging from aid distribution by public authorities to procurement transformation in the energy sector. According to the company, these implementations form the foundation for its 2025 roadmap.

SAP Joule AI assistant expands language support and S/4HANA Cloud integration

The Joule AI assistant now supports English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Greek and Polish. The platform has added features such as strict filters for context-based responses, real-time feedback through streamed responses and integration with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.

Philipp explains that Joule will provide customers with agents that comprehend business context across functions: “Joule already offers customers a unified experience across our suite's end-to-end business processes,” he says. “Now, as we enter the era of AI agents, Joule will equip customers with agents that genuinely understand their business context and collaborate across all functions.”

These agents address use cases such as automatic supplier and contract verification before purchase order creation, and classification of service tickets for routing to appropriate teams. The effectiveness of these agents stems from their connection to business-specific data sources, including the recently-launched SAP Business Data Cloud and SAP Knowledge Graph.

The company also offers a Joule agent builder that allows customers to develop custom agents based on their own processes and data requirements.

SAP Business AI in Numbers
  • 400 – Target number of embedded AI use cases for 2025
  • 200+ – AI features already available across SAP solutions
  • 11 – Languages now supported by SAP Joule AI assistant

SAP Signavio and LeanIX receive natural language process development capabilities

For business transformation management, SAP has added AI capabilities that reduce manual work and democratise access to tools. Joule for developers incorporates code generation and optimisation across ABAP, SAP Build Code and SAP BTP Cockpit environments.

SAP Signavio Process Manager and SAP Signavio Process Intelligence now support natural language commands for process diagram creation (described as “text-to-process”) and analytical dashboard generation (“text-to-widgets”).

Additionally, SAP LeanIX has introduced an AI-assisted inventory builder that automates documentation tasks for IT landscapes.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud and SAP Ariba integrate AI functions for finance and procurement

The finance and procurement systems receive substantial AI enhancements in the latest release. SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition gains AI-assisted enterprise search, personalised home page features, situation handling and error explanations.

SAP has extended Joule to S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, automating journal uploads, service initiations, and trade classifications. Concur Expense also receives additional AI updates in this release cycle.

In procurement and supply chain solutions, SAP has integrated Joule into SAP Ariba and SAP Field Service Management for natural language navigation and task completion. SAP Ariba Category Management now includes AI-generated category recommendations to support strategic planning processes.

Another addition is AI-powered declaration image analysis in SAP Green Token, which automatically extracts data from supplier declarations.

SAP Datasphere and AI Core expand developer tools for enterprise AI applications

For technical teams, SAP has developed tools designed to increase productivity through AI integration. SAP Datasphere has gained AI-powered content generation and natural language search capabilities, which connect to the company's broader data strategy with SAP Business Data Cloud.

This year will be the most ambitious year for SAP Business AI yet.

The Generative AI Hub in SAP AI Core and SAP AI Launchpad offers expanded access to large language models (LLMs) for customised AI applications. A new model library feature simplifies LLM selection with detailed model cards and one-click deployment, while the grounding management feature allows developers to create, modify, and search repositories using natural language.

SAP has also introduced a HANA knowledge graph engine that enhances LLM responses by connecting them to business-specific information sources.

“When it comes to AI agents, our customers are just getting started. That's because the possibilities are endless with Joule’s agent builder. Customers can create and deploy custom agents that, like our out-of-the-box agents, are uniquely grounded in their business processes and data. We are excited to see how our customers drive business value in 2025 and beyond,” says Philipp.
