SAP reveals improved AI innovations that shows potential for multiple business sectors
SAP introduces collaborative AI agents and knowledge graph capabilities to enhance its Joule copilot and revolutionise AI adoption and data utilisation

It is well known that AI has emerged as a transformative force in the global business landscape, with companies across industries seeking to harness its potential for improved efficiency and decision-making.

As AI technologies continue to evolve, enterprise software providers are racing to integrate these capabilities into their offerings, promising to fundamentally adapt how organisations operate and compete in an increasingly digital world.

Bringing its competitive edge to market, SAP, a leading provider of enterprise software solutions, has announced a suite of AI innovations designed to bolster its position in the rapidly evolving market for AI-powered business tools.

SAP, which provides software that underpins operations for many of the world's largest companies across multiple industries, from Coca-Cola to BMW to Google, has unveiled a range of AI advancements at its annual TechEd conference.

The report says these innovations centre around enhancing Joule, the company's AI-powered digital assistant, or "copilot".

What is SAP’s Joule?

The SAP report reveals that the company is introducing collaborative AI agents to work alongside Joule.

First announced in 2023, Joule is SAP's AI assistant that works across SAP's business software.

It helps employees by answering questions, automating tasks and providing insights using company data, all through simple conversations.

These agents are specialised AI programs designed to handle specific tasks and work together on complex business processes.

The company says this approach will help break down silos between different business functions and allow human workers to focus on tasks that require creativity and strategic thinking.

To illustrate the potential of these collaborative agents, SAP demonstrated two use cases at the conference.

The report states that one example showed how AI agents could analyse and resolve issues related to incorrect invoices and payments.

Another demonstration showcased how AI could streamline financial processes by automating tasks such as bill payments and ledger updates.

How SAP is harnessing data for business insights

In addition to enhancing its AI capabilities, SAP is also focusing on improving how businesses can utilise their data.

The company is introducing a new solution called SAP Knowledge Graph, which will be available through its data management platform, SAP Datasphere and the Joule copilot in early 2025.

The Knowledge Graph solution is described as a tool that maps relationships and context across an organisation's data landscape.

SAP says this will help businesses gain deeper insights from their data and make better-informed decisions.

The report suggests that by providing pre-defined relationships between various business entities, such as purchase orders and customers, the solution could significantly reduce the complexity of data modelling for organisations.

Empowering developers and addressing the skills gap

SAP's announcements also included new features aimed at software developers.

The report states that the company is adding generative AI capabilities to its SAP Build platform, which allows developers to extend SAP's software solutions.

These new features, including code explanation and documentation search, are intended to reduce development time for programmers working with Java and JavaScript.

The report notes that SAP has achieved its goal of upskilling two million people worldwide by 2025, ahead of schedule.

This initiative, which includes free training materials and role-based certifications, aims to address the global digital skills gap.

Taking another step further, the company also says it is continuing to expand its portfolio of AI-related learning opportunities to address technology skills gaps.
