Bain & Company now runs its core financials in 40 countries on SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, as SAP soars ahead with its cloud ERP transformations

Harnessing SAP software marks a milestone for Bain & Company since the launch of its enterprise resource planning (ERP) modernisation project in 2020.

The firm is now using SAP S/4Hana, SAP’s complete ERP solution powered by AI and analytics, across 40 countries to support its continued growth. Bain & Company is aiming to capitalise on its continued global expansions, spurred on by its acquisitions, by championing SAP’s cloud capabilities.

This was confirmed shortly before SAP announced in July 2024 its shares rose as much as 7% to reach an all-time high. The software company has reported a better-than-expected quarterly operating income, as reported by Reuters, with its total quarterly revenue rising by 10% to €8.29bn (US$8.98bn).

“Cloud momentum remains strong, with [SAP] cloud revenue up 25% and current cloud backlog up 28% at constant currencies,” comments Scott Russell, Chief Revenue Officer & Executive Board Member at SAP, via a LinkedIn post.

“We saw how SAP business AI has enabled numerous deals this quarter, as Gen AI becomes a competitive differentiator for organisations.”

Choosing to invest in the cloud

S/4HANA enables SAP customers to digitally transform their business by helping build flexible value chains with end-to-end processes, introduce new business models in their industry, and expand globally yet sustainably.

It was the best ERP option for Bain & Company to meet its evolving business needs, with the firm believing that such a tailored solution will help future-proof its technology stack as it continues to develop as a business.

“We’ve already completed our first year-end close on SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition and are very pleased with the results we’ve seen. I’m confident that we’re on course to deliver significant value from this implementation in the coming years,” comments Bain & Company’s Chief Information Officer, Ramesh Razdan.

Implementing SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition is a decision companies are making to fully standardise their core processes end-to-end. As it is a ready-to-run cloud ERP that is designed to deliver the latest industry best practices and continuous innovation, it can allow global users to deliver desired business outcomes using the power of new technology.

As long-standing partners, Bain & Company worked together with SAP to design and deliver its end-to-end “SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition modernisation program.” Additionally, Bain has also invested in significant change management and training efforts to ensure global users were ready to harness the full value of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.

Optimising business strategy

More broadly, increasing numbers of businesses around the world are choosing to migrate further to the cloud to support future growth for their business. As enterprises continue to prioritise cloud initiatives, research suggests that businesses making the most of cloud computing will help the sector grow to US$1.5tn by 2030.

SAP’s latest offerings come in the wake of the company overhauling its digital transformation strategies to focus predominantly on AI and the cloud. In January 2024, it announced a significant restructure of certain business areas, which included upskilling around 8,000 workers to prioritise its AI development.

Cloud and ERP innovation can lead to faster and more informed decision-making, automated processes and reduced manual work for employees.

Speaking on this, Scott says: “With our Cloud ERP solution, Bain is now positioned for accelerated growth, leveraging the latest industry best practices and innovations. This implementation marks a substantial step in their digital transformation, enhancing decision-making, reducing manual tasks, and seamlessly integrating acquisitions.”

Scott Russell, Chief Revenue Officer & Executive Board Member at SAP.

He adds: “This collaboration will deliver remarkable value and efficiency, setting new benchmarks for excellence in the industry.”
