Wipro Cloud Deal Marks Marelli’s Data Centre Transformation
Automotive manufacturers face increasing pressure to accelerate their digital transformation as vehicle technology advances and supply chains demand greater agility. This shift requires modernisation of legacy IT infrastructure, particularly in data centre operations which support critical manufacturing and design processes.
Against this backdrop, technology services provider Wipro has announced that it will migrate automotive solutions company Marelli’s Milan data centre to cloud infrastructure as part of a four-year extension of their existing partnership. The move represents a significant step in the automotive sector’s transition from traditional on-premises computing to cloud-based operations.
- 4: Years in new contract extension
- 65: Countries where Wipro operates
- 230,000: Wipro employees and business partners globally
Wipro, which provides technology consulting services across 65 countries, will utilise its FullStride Cloud platform to transfer Marelli’s Milan data centre and regional server facilities to cloud infrastructure. The migration forms part of Marelli’s infrastructure modernisation programme, which aims to streamline operations and reduce time to market for new products.
The infrastructure modernisation will enable Marelli to respond more rapidly to changes in the automotive sector, where product development cycles require increasing agility from suppliers and manufacturers.
Wipro brings AI capability to Marelli support services
The project includes deployment of AI-powered virtual assistants for Marelli's employee support services. These AI systems will handle routine support requests and queries, reducing the workload on human support staff.
Our wide-ranging expertise alongside our deep understanding of their needs means we will deliver a modernisation program specifically tailored to their needs
The infrastructure changes will incorporate vulnerability management services to monitor and address security risks across Marelli’s cloud systems. Wipro will provide ongoing application maintenance to maintain system stability.
The implementation of AI-powered support systems represents a shift from traditional IT support models, introducing automation to handle common support requests. This automation aims to reduce response times for employee technical support enquiries.
Marelli expands cloud transformation with Wipro partnership
Graziella Neuvéglise, Regional Head & Managing Director for Southern Europe at Wipro and Executive Sponsor for Marelli, says: "We are excited to begin a new chapter in our strategic partnership with our trusted partner, Marelli. Our wide-ranging expertise alongside our deep understanding of their needs means we will deliver a modernisation program specifically tailored to their needs."
The migration aims to create a centralised operational structure for Marelli's data management. This centralisation enables faster deployment of system updates and modifications across the company's infrastructure.
Wipro's cloud infrastructure will provide Marelli with computing resources that can scale up or down based on demand, replacing the fixed capacity of physical data centres. This flexibility allows Marelli to adjust its computing capabilities as requirements change.
The project represents a continuation of Wipro's expansion in the automotive technology sector. Wipro’s technology services division works with manufacturers and suppliers to modernise their IT infrastructure and support digital transformation initiatives.
Cloud migration delivers operational efficiencies
The migration from physical data centres to cloud infrastructure aims to reduce operational costs through more efficient resource utilisation. Cloud systems eliminate the need for maintaining physical server rooms and associated cooling systems.
The centralised approach to data management will create a more stable ecosystem for Marelli's operations. This stability supports the company's continuous improvement initiatives across its automotive solutions business.
The infrastructure modernisation programme includes provisions for long-term efficiency improvements. These improvements focus on reducing the need for future rework through systems designed for sustainability.
Wipro's FullStride Cloud services will support Marelli's business operations across multiple regions. The cloud infrastructure enables consistent service delivery across different geographical locations.
We have a long-standing partnership with Wipro
The modernisation project builds on the existing relationship between Wipro and Marelli. This relationship has provided Wipro with insights into Marelli's operational requirements and technical infrastructure needs.
Vittorio Rossetti, Chief Digital Officer of Marelli, says: "We have a long-standing partnership with Wipro. Over the years we have worked with them, the Wipro team has developed an in-depth understanding of our business, which combined with their technical expertise, will help us further develop and grow our IT infrastructure."
