New digital assistants automate admin tasks and spot motivation gaps, so trainers can ditch paperwork and prioritise real human connection with clients

The fitness industry is unrecognisable compared to what it looked like 10, five or even one year ago.

We’re very much in an era of ‘healthiness’, a shift where technology doesn't just track our steps, but actively understands our bodies and generative AI is playing a huge part in that, turning standard workouts into precision medical-grade wellness journeys.

The biggest hurdle in fitness is not necessarily the exercise itself – it’s knowing exactly what your body needs at any given moment.

Technogym’s multi-year collaboration with Google Cloud is bridging this gap by bringing Gemini AI into its ecosystem.

Through the Technogym AI Coach, users no longer have to use complex interfaces. Instead, they can interact naturally using voice, text and photos.

For example, people could ask their treadmill, “How can I improve my Wellness Age?” and receive a training plan that adjusts based on your sleep quality, previous recovery and long-term goals.

Nerio Alessandri, Founder and CEO of Technogym, says:

“When it works, it’s obsolete. At Technogym, this is our mantra. Starting from our unique Technogym AI Ecosystem, we continue to innovate through our collaboration with Google Cloud and the integration of Gemini AI models, which will allow us to deliver an even more personalised and engaging wellness experience for end-users and our partner operators.”

Empowering the humans behind the tech

AI won’t replace trainers but it can free their time up to better focus on their clients.

A new AI Assistant for gym operators uses Google Cloud’s data tools to handle the boring parts of the job, such as scheduling and administrative tasks.

By spotting dropout signals, which are patterns that suggest a member might be losing motivation, the AI alerts trainers so they can step in with human encouragement.

This ensures that fitness professionals spend less time on paperwork and more time on high-value coaching and real human connection.

Beyond the gym

Technogym isn’t the only company working on AI-driven wellness.

The rise of wearable technology, such as the Oura Ring or Samsung Galaxy Ring, showcases how AI can turn raw data into actionable health advice.

These devices use AI to analyse biomarkers like heart rate variability and skin temperature to tell you when to push hard and when to rest.

Much like Technogym’s ecosystem, these tools are moving away from simple tracking and toward agentic AI systems that can think ahead and offer solutions before a problem arises.

A new standard for wellness

The ultimate goal of these technologies is healthy longevity. By leveraging 40 years of scientific research and Google’s infrastructure, Technogym is ensuring that hyper-personalisation happens in a secure, private environment.

“As the wellness industry shifts toward hyper-personalised, agentic experiences, Google Cloud is at the forefront of delivering the advanced AI technologies needed to power this transformation,” says Raffaele Gigantino, Country Manager for Google Cloud Italy.

“The result is a world where your gym equipment knows you as well as a doctor does, helping you live a longer, healthier life through the power of intelligent, invisible technology.”
