NXP Semiconductors, a leading provider of IoT solutions and services, has announced a new partnership with Baidu Cloud, the cloud service division of Chinese multinational technology company Baidu.

The agreement will see the two companies working together to promote innovation within the IoT industry, providing support to developers in building new revolutionary applications.

Within this, NXP will support Baidu’s smart IoT platform named Tiangong from cloud to IoT device security. This will allow Tiangong to better protect data and secure edge node connections across a variety of leading markets, from logistics to smart cities.

“Baidu Cloud has made great advances in AI, big data and cloud computing over the past several years in our effort to build the leading smart IoT platform and ecosystem,” said NXP Global Senior Vice President and President of Greater China, Li Zheng.

“As a world-leading AI and IoT IC provider, NXP is happy to support Baidu with our well-established smart IoT solutions. We look forward to working with partners like Baidu Cloud to build a new digital, smart and secure future.”

The partnership will allow NXP to greater take advantage of the fast-growing technology industry within China, citing a report from Forward Industry Research Institute, forecasting that the revenue of the AI technology industry will exceed ¥150bn (USD$23.5bn) by 2020, with an additional ¥1tn (USD$160bn) to be created in upstream and downstream industries.

NXP was recently ranked 3rd amongst global AI chipset companies by Compass Intelligence, only bested by Nvidia and Intel.
