How RISE with SAP is Unlocking Cloud Innovation

Technology Magazine highlights RISE with SAP: a comprehensive solution to help organisations securely migrate their critical ERP systems to the cloud

Businesses are continually seeking innovative ways to stay competitive and agile. This is driving a widespread shift towards moving to the cloud, as organisations seek to leverage advanced technologies, drive efficiency and gain real-time insights into their operations.

However, migrating mission-critical systems like enterprise resource planning (ERP) software to the cloud can be a daunting and complex process, particularly for organisations currently running on-premise solutions.

Enter RISE with SAP, a business transformation-as-a-service platform designed to help organisations securely and seamlessly transition their core systems to the cloud. Launched in January 2021, RISE with SAP offers a comprehensive solution that combines cloud software, infrastructure and services, enabling businesses to unlock the full potential of cloud computing while modernising their business-critical processes and systems.

What is RISE with SAP?

A managed cloud service that combines cloud software, infrastructure and services to deliver a clear path to the cloud for businesses, RISE with SAP allows customers to take advantage of powerful cloud-based business management software with embedded intelligence, real-time insights and advanced technologies.

With SAP’s S/4HANA Cloud offering – named a Leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Cloud ERP – at its core, RISE with SAP aims to unlock continued innovation and transformation for customers by modernising their business-critical processes and systems in a collaborative and measurable way.

“This is practically the vehicle to deliver SAP's Intelligent Enterprise Vision,” Roland Costea, the Global Chief Security Officer for SAP’s Enterprise Cloud Services, told Technology Magazine recently. “It brings together the solutions and services you need, in one package, regardless of where your business stands now or where you want it to go.”

In January 2024, SAP launched the RISE with SAP Migration and Modernization programme, aimed at addressing two primary issues businesses face when moving to the cloud – scope and cost. SAP said this programme gives leaders the confidence to take even the most complex ERP systems to the cloud by helping to eliminate custom code, data silos and process complexity.

RISE with SAP: The key benefits

Cloud Migration

The RISE with SAP Migration and Modernisation programme is tailored to each customer's unique starting point, providing a smooth, secure way to migrate on-premise SAP ECC and S/4HANA systems to the cloud. It follows a ‘clean core’ approach to take full advantage of the latest cloud innovations.

Structured Methodology

The RISE with SAP Methodology captures best practices from thousands of successful customer implementations over three years. It provides a consistent, KPI-driven approach from planning to go-live to operations, helping customers meet their transformation goals.

Guided Implementation

New enhancements include an onboarding experience with SAP advisors providing 1:1 guidance, recorded training, and quality checks to validate adherence to best practices - all to help customers implement cloud ERP with clarity and confidence.

Business Agility

With a cloud-based core system, businesses gain agility, faster innovation cycles, and improved value realisation from their ERP investments as new capabilities get continuously delivered.

Resilience & Compliance

Cloud ERP provides a resilient foundation with advanced security, compliance adherence, and business continuity capabilities that would be challenging to match on-premises.

By combining software, guided services, and a structured cloud adoption approach, RISE with SAP equips businesses to unlock innovation, boost agility, strengthen resilience and compliance and ultimately drive their digital transformation by leveraging intelligent, cloud-based ERP solutions. Today, global organisations such as Deutsche Telekom, AWS and Microsoft trust SAP to work on cloud transformations.

“Every company needs a cloud-first business strategy,” says Eric van Rossum, Chief Marketing Officer for Cloud ERP at SAP. “It’s more important than ever for customers to start their migration and modernisation journey, so they can harness the potential of the latest cloud innovations, including AI and sustainability solutions.”
