PwC New US CIO to Further Embed Technology into Strategy

One of the world’s leading technology consulting firms, PwC’s products and services are built on over 170 years of experience.

Now, PwC US has announced a new Operating Committee, effective 1st July 2024, which includes the appointment of James Shira as its new Chief Information Officer. In this new role, James will be in charge of enhancing and simplifying PwC’s technology infrastructure, data capabilities, tech governance and security.

Announced by PwC US’ next senior partner, Paul Griggs – whose four-year term will also begin on 1st July – the organisation has reshuffled its leadership teams to help it become more client-centric, tech-powered and agile.

As part of this process, James Shira will serve as Chief Information Officer, enabling PwC to continue to innovate to serve its clients in new ways, work smarter and faster to deliver quality, and responsibly embed tech into everything it does. 

“We have the right leadership, people and technical capabilities to achieve remarkable things,” Griggs wrote on LinkedIn. “And we will be relentless in our pursuit of providing quality work across the firm and in serving our clients, the markets and our stakeholders.”

Tech-enabling the PwC global network

Research from PwC has found that cyber and digital technology risks are a key concern for businesses and risk leaders in 2023, even as 60% see generative AI as an opportunity for their businesses. 

As the current US and Global Chief Information and Technology Officer, James has played an integral role in tech-enabling the PwC global network.

Known as a change and action-oriented leader, James joined PwC in 2015 as Chief Information Security Officer, building and leading the US and global information security function. With over 20 years of experience leading multiple security and technology transformation and modernisation programs for large organisations, he thrives on tackling large-scale challenges, integrating emerging technologies to enable business strategies and leading and inspiring teams.

An inaugural student of Columbia University's Executive Technology Management programme, James also holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Baylor University with a concentration in management information systems. 

Before joining PwC, James held a number of senior positions at financial services institutions, spending six years at Zurich where he led its overall information security function. He also held roles at American General and Julius Baer.
