Infosys: Inside the New AI-Powered Formula E Race Centre
As the world is being reshaped by modern technology, racing is not being left behind.
Formula E, the world's premier all-electric motorsport, is launching a technology-powered Race Centre with Infosys.
The centre puts fans at the heart of the action with intelligent data and advanced systems creating an immersive race day experience around them.
"Formula E is a powerful platform to demonstrate how technology can reshape sports," says Sumit Virmani, Executive Vice President (EVP) and Global Chief Marketing Officer at Infosys.
"With Infosys Topaz and Infosys Cobalt at the core of the new Race Centre, we are redefining the race-day experience from real-time, responsible insights to cloud-native scale that meets global demand."
"This season, fans can expect intelligent commentary, deeper explainers and richer interactions that extend beyond the broadcast window," Sumit continues.
"We're optimistic about what comes next – together with Formula E, we're building a futuristic blueprint of how technology and cloud can elevate performance and storytelling, across the world of sport."
The Race Centre could represent a significant shift in how sporting events leverage digital innovation to enhance viewer engagement and create more immersive experiences for audiences worldwide.
Technology-driven race centre features
More than 1.5 million data points generated during each race are now distilled to create Race Centre dashboards through Infosys' advanced digital agents.
Race control updates, race positions and car movements are all drawn in to create a 2D racetrack visualisation, part of the interactive dashboard.
As the race takes place, an automated commentary engine built on Infosys Topaz's digital foundation will deliver real-time, context-aware race narration.
Interactive engagement features are planned which allow audiences to get in on the action and predict the podium outcomes both in practice and qualifying sessions.
Fans can also vote for PIF Driver of the Race.
Another feature is the PITBOOST tracking which allows fans to track the fast-charging capabilities in the mandatory pit stops.
This offers visibility on the charge stops and enables fans to track how the driver positions might affect the momentum of the race.
The platform offers a feature to track a selected driver, enabling better understanding of race development including overtakes and attack mode deployments of drivers of choice. This can be done at any time during the race.
Enhanced digital fan experience
The technology-enhanced fan experience will help bring viewers as close to the track as possible and sits well with Formula E's strategy of attracting a younger, more digitally native audience.
Combining live telemetry, timing data and race control inputs, Infosys and Formula E's Race Centre are processing them into a single, user-facing interface in real time – transforming the fan experience.
"Formula E's vision is to lead the future of sustainable motorsport and technology is the catalyst that continues to push our sport forward," says Dan Cherowbrier, Chief Technology Officer at Formula E.
"With Infosys, we're elevating how fans experience every lap with clearer insights, more interactive moments and greater accessibility to the stories unfolding on and off the track."
"The Race Centre, powered by Infosys, helps fans feel closer to the race," Cherowbrier adds.
"Looking ahead, this platform sets the stage for a smarter, more connected future in which innovation and electric racing move forward together."
The implementation demonstrates how cloud computing, data analytics and automation technologies are converging to create new possibilities in sports broadcasting and fan engagement, potentially offering a model for other sporting organisations seeking to modernise their viewer experiences.
