Infosys and Formula E have struck a new partnership to enable next-gen fan experiences, powered by AI and digital innovations

From gathering around black-and-white TVs to streaming 4K video on smartphones, technology has radically reshaped how fans experience sports. Today, the latest wave of digital innovations promises to transform the fan experience yet again, with emerging technologies like AI, data analytics and augmented reality (AR) engaging fans with immersive, personalised experiences that bring them closer to the action than ever before.

Amid increased expectations from sports fans, digital services and consulting firm Infosys has announced it has signed a multi-year deal with the Formula E electric motorsports series, aiming to create next-generation fan experiences powered by cutting-edge AI and digital innovations.

The partnership builds on Infosys’ successful track record working with other major sports brands worldwide, including the Australian Open, ATP Tour, French Tennis Federation and Madison Square Garden teams including the New York Knicks and New York Rangers.

The partnership between Infosys and Formula E will focus on three core areas
  • Fan growth
  • Technology innovation
  • Environmental stewardship

Infosys and Formula E: AI and data capabilities to improve fan experience

At the core of the partnership is leveraging Infosys’ AI and data capabilities to engage Formula E’s rapidly-growing global fan base in new ways. One key initiative is building an AI-powered Fan Customer Data Platform to unlock deeper personalisation and to help Formula E better understand fan preferences and behaviour, to help the sport meet its ambitions to grow its fan base to 500 million by 2030.

“Infosys' expertise in cutting-edge technologies makes them the ideal partner to help us drive the future of electric motorsport,” said Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E. “We are excited to work with them to deliver exceptional experiences for our global fan base and further strengthen Formula E's position as a leader in sustainable, digital-first sports. Infosys' commitment to sustainability and innovation aligns perfectly with our vision, and we are confident that this collaboration will unlock new avenues in our key focus areas.”

In addition to fan engagement, the partnership will enhance the live race viewing experience itself. Using Infosys’ Topaz AI suite, real-time analytics and driver statistics will be provided during races to give fans deeper insights. Generative AI will power these in-race visualisations and data points.

Sustainability is also a key focus area which the partnership aims to address, to help Formula E achieve its aim to reduce its carbon footprint 45% by 2030. Infosys will apply AI to improve carbon data tracking, reporting accuracy, and ultimately set new standards for environmental assessments in motorsport.

“Infosys has built and nurtured several strategic sports collaborations globally,” says Sumit Virmani, EVP & Global Chief Marketing Officer, Infosys. “We are now delighted to partner with Formula E, a visionary motorsport series that shares our passion for sustainability and AI-led innovation. This strategic collaboration will showcase our AI, digital, and analytics prowess, elevating the fan experience, while enhancing Formula E's sustainability goals. Together, we aim to redefine the possibilities in electric motorsport.”
