Top 10: Chief Data & Analytics Officers

With today's world driven by data, Technology Magazine shines a spotlight on 10 of the leading data and analytics leaders at the world's largest companies

In today’s world, the role of data is firmly on the agenda for all organisations.

According to research by Deloitte, 61% of data leaders say creating, updating or implementing a data strategy is one of their top three priorities for the next 12 months. The company’s most recent Chief Data Officer survey also highlights that leading data executives will play an increasingly-prominent role in their organisations, by taking the lead, catalysing, or supporting data initiatives.

According to Gartner, an organisation’s Chief Data and Analytics Officer (CDAO) has the primary enterprise accountability for value creation using the organisation’s data and analytics assets, as well as the data and analytics ecosystem.

CDAOs play a crucial role in modern organisations, particularly those heavily reliant on data-driven decision-making, with some key responsibilities including:

  • Data Strategy Development: The CDAO is responsible for developing and implementing the organisation's overall data strategy. This involves identifying data sources, defining data governance policies, and determining how data will be collected, stored, analysed, and utilised to drive business objectives.
  • Data Management and Governance: Ensuring the quality, security, and integrity of data assets is a core responsibility of the CDAO. They oversee the establishment and enforcement of data governance frameworks, data quality standards, and data management practices to ensure that data is accurate, consistent, and compliant with relevant regulations.
  • Analytics and Insights: Leveraging advanced analytics techniques, such as predictive modelling, machine learning, and data mining, the CDAO extracts actionable insights from data to support strategic decision-making across the organisation. This involves collaborating with business units to understand their needs and designing analytical solutions to address specific challenges or opportunities.
